  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Please can we have a new Science Forum?

Honestly it needs to be a full forum by itself

NOT a sub forum like international politics that would kill it before it got started we can try it and see if it works

With some of the new site developments that we have in the pipeline, I believe that JUB's traffic will increase significantly and even if there is not enough support for a Science Forum at the moment, I would imagine that there will be in the future.

Any further thoughts are more than welcome.

Not that I'm necessarily pushing for a Science Forum....but I do think that too many worthwhile threads get lost in Hot Topics too quickly...and if we have increased traffic here...seems logical to assume it may even compound itself. If I'm not on here for even a few days...Hot Topics has 3 or more pages of new threads/posts...too many to get to...so older ones just get lost. What I like about the the idea of a Science and Tech forum is that it won't have as high a turnover rate...and I could more easily see what's interesting to me when I have the time. A quieter/less active forum is not necessarily a bad thing.

Personally, I spend the most time in Hot Topics and prefer to see a variety of threads there. I know the other forums exist but I rarely venture out to them. I like the science threads and read them so I hate to see them go away.

incorporate Science into the Tech forum which would become 'Science, Technology & Computers' - and then if the threads warrant their own forum, we could create a new one.
This seems like the best compromise to me. I'm not sure we really need another forum of its own yet.

Well a Science Forum is now being discussed at Mod Towers. Creating new forums is easy enough to do, however, as has already been mentioned, we have to look at whether there is enough of a need and also if we have Mods who can monitor the forum - or if there is someone we feel we can bring onboard.

When we look at the International Politics forum and the Sports Forum, although there was much support for both of them, in reality they haven't really developed as much as was hoped.

From a purely personal point of view, an option would be to either have a new forum with the proviso that if it doesn't get the traffic we anticipated then it is closed and the threads moved to HT,

OR

Fair dos. "Science, Technology and Computers" seem to be a good compromise. I think as has been voiced, the traffic may be smaller than say the more popular forums, and as T&C is already only a few posts per day usually on new gadgets and computer problems. Since science and technology are generally related, it would be complementary.

T&C has already got mods, so just changing the forum title means you still have the same number of staff to help with the running.

Say, which of you mods have a science background too? It'd be interesting to know who can edit with an eye for the area of interest.

like i said in the other thread all the threads need to have a reference like a weblink or journal entry or magazine article
