Hi guys,
to make it easier for all the people helping in this forum, and for all people looking for advice in this forum, please use meaningfull headlines.

For example:
Problem
Can somebody help me?
I need help
info please?

say almost nothing about the threads content. People who might actually know something about the subject might just skip it. And when another day people with eventually the same problem search the forum for older threads with a similar problem they might not find it. So please be as descriptive as possible in the headline.

For example:

Site rendering problem with IE 6
Scanner stopped working with new drivers
Has somebody informations about RAM speeds?
Need help using Photoshop 5.5

Thanks!

Re: Please use meaningfull headlines

hum...probably a good idea for the search feature alone. Personally though i don't skip a thread unless it actually says something i know nothing about...like ipods...but even a few times i've checked those too just in case. ;)

Re: Please use meaningfull headlines

^ is just a freak for computer stuff. But that is a great Idea and hopefully people will pay attention to it.

Re: Please use meaningfull headlines

In common with other tech forums that I belong to, can I also ask that if your problem gets resolved, that you go back to your thread and say that it's resolved and which particular piece of advice solved the problem. That way, in the future if people do a search to help resolve a problem, they know exactly what to try first - and just as importantly, what NOT to waste time on.

It also helps stop people wasting time posting further advice that is not required, thus leaving them free to concentrate on the other queries!!

Just a thought. :D

Re: Please use meaningfull headlines

yes a very good point

Re: Please use meaningfull headlines

Corduroy pillows............................................................. there making head lines.

Re: Please use meaningfull headlines

Well i forsee a lot more threads titled "Hard throbbing cock inside", with the subject being. I need a easy creme brule' recipee.

Re: Please use meaningfull headlines

If you hover over the title doesn't it give you information about the post?

Re: Please use meaningfull headlines

yes .. like the first line .. but that often doesn't help much ;)
further it is way more comfortable when you search for something, and it returns you 20 threads, when you can check from the headline which of those might be interesting for you.

Re: Please use meaningfull headlines

When I requested this forum (although i wasn't the only one to request it), it was to help people who didn't know where to go to look for help. that means people who aren't going to be technically/computer savvy. YES it would be nice if they could title their threads to report exactly what their problem is. But it's not a requirement and it shouldn't be a requirement. It seems unJUB like to read a reply to someone's thread telling them to use meaningful headlines and then not bothering to try to help the person. That kind of reply isn't any more helpful or useful than a vague title. and it just makes them less likely to ask for help the next time. these are the people this forum is for!

Personally, I would never not open a thread in this forum just because the title was vague or didn't explain something. in fact it's quite the opposite those are often the first ones i open, because i figure it was someone who really needed help.

Besides that, the folks asking for help here I suspect aren't likely to use the search feature anyway because they wouldn't know what to even look for in a title. So lets try not to berate folks who don't necessarily know what to ask please? (*8*) ;)

Now...if they get nasty and snotty even after someone tries to help...then that's a whole nother ball game.

Re: Please use meaningfull headlines

i don't berate folks, but i do point at this thread. i usually read every thread here, but if i don't have much time, i ony click on the titles where i know i might help (if not somebody else already answered it).
did you notice the increase in views of the thread that you are refering to now? the number has almost doubled since i changed the headline. so it is in your own interest to chose a _meaningfull_ headline. i don't say it has to be 100% precise and perfect, although that of course would be nice ;)

Re: Please use meaningfull headlines

My point, is that replying in that manner makes the author of the thread less likely to ask for help the next time, because they FEEL like they are being berated. And they are less likely to ask for help the next time they need it.

I still only see you and I as the ones who have posted in the thread I'm refering to. Number of views doens't mean anything when folks didn't bother to post. And out of us two, I'm the only one that said anything that might be considered relevent to the problem.

I still totally get your point and I agree it would be nice. i'm just saying that posting basically "title your thread right next time" and nothing else or a link to this thread doesn't help, and i doubt they read it anyway. posting the link here after you've replied in a somewhat helpful maner might get them to read this thread ;)

yes. sadly that doesn't stop people from using them ;)
