Pride Month 2024

Upper Darby Pride was last Saturday afternoon. No parade...there was a parade in our county seat of Media the week before and I was in Ohio.

This festival was community-oriented and not corporate. Lots of vendors, but businesses were like law firms, home renovation, and my healthcare provider. My state senator had a booth, and the League of Women Voters was there.

The weather was lovely.

"Cibeles"=Cybele

That's the Cybele Palace, the old post office and now city hall of Madrid, with the Fountain of Cybele in the foreground.

The Palace of Linares, now Casa de América, is right opposite across the street, on the same square.

^Ironically, the Big Dick building is categorizable as Minimalist. Go figure.

As for the gay over-ornamentation of the palace, excessive ornamentation has been disparaged as gay long before the current little shits started using gay as a deprecatory adjective for anything they see as not heternormatively cool.

In person, palaces and imposing facades have exactly the effect the kings, popes, parliaments, and petty potentates intended, to intimidate. But, in photographs, they are often just comical in their blatant desperation.
