Real Avatars..... Please!

well my avatar is not really me, it just some odd asian guy I picked up and now he's on my bed....haha

I think you'll find that a vast majority of people do not wish to post a genuine photo of themselves for various reasons. That does not make them any less honest - just more cautious.

Avatars are actually supposed to be pictures of you??? I thought they were just a representation of Vishnu?

I say that you don’t need to place a picture of yourself on JUB as your Avatars. I do not a pic of myself and that is because I do not want to place a pic of my face on here. It is not because I am not honest, or anything. The problem with the internet is that a picture does not always show the true person. I feel that by reading the threads you get a better understanding of the people on JUB and who they are, and also what their believes are then you will ever get with a picture. A picture can lie, words can’t lie.
And as for your friend, it is sad to hear that he got hurt. But that is a risk you take when you date from the internet.

Peto what a nice pix of you all that is missing is a number and post office wall!! LOL

My avatar is really me honest i'd never lead you down the garden path you butch thing you!! LOL

It is up to each person to decide for themselves if they wish to show their face on the net and if they choose not to it could be for any number of reasons

well i for one do not want my face photo posted in every comment i make all over a gay porn web site.

...and in my opinion an avatar is supposed to represent you...not necessarily be you.

Iam getting a bit put off with J U B dudes ... whom I have no idea who they truly are or what they look like. I made the decision this was very important and put my most recent photo as an avatar. I got this idea from a thread of a guy who bitterly complained about being led on by a guy with whom he exchanged phone numbers and went the whole route only to be really let down.

I don't mean to be rude or put anyone down, but why can't there be more honesty as to whom we really are and what we are all about. I can write this with no hesitation as I do feel I am as honest and direct..... too much so....... as I can be. We are all different and we all bring something different to J U B, so why can't we bring our true self and make it that much more of a rich and rewarding experience!?

Ecce Homo

My Personal Album use to be chock-a-block full of pictures of me, and there have been a few who have told me that I look exactly like my avatar, but I think they were drunk so it doesn't matter.

JUB has 3,224 pages listing members. Which means that there are close to 97,000 members give or take a few hundred who don't even post....AT ALL!!!

I took my personal fave pics out of my photo album when I started my "serialized blog." I don't know everyone who's reading it, and there are some who may or may not know who the "real" people are that these characters or based upon, and if someone recognized me without my knowing it, it could be TMI for too many people.

If you want to know what my image looks like in the real world, PM me and ask. If I already know you, I'll send you what I've got! :D

Deal? :p

I refuse to post my pic on the net. Mostly due to my job, and the fact that it is funded by the ATF and DEA, not to mention State Funds from the Dept. of Health.

Really? In previous posts, you have said you're a 33-year old professor. I'm sorry, but your avatar does not look like a 33 year old. I don't think that's really you.

Well, as I have made no secret of it, I am still mainly closeted at work because the school district I work for is very conservative. However, they have been nothing but wonderful to me during my 20 year tenure with them, and I don't plan to do anything that would cause undue attention to my otherwise distinguished career and reputation.

With the John Belushi avatar, I am being as truthful about my looks without actually posting myself. If I were to dress as a Blues Brother for Halloween, (as I have several times), I am the spitting image of Belushi (with the sunglasses on). Our body types are similar too. I am average height, (5'9") and somewhat built "stocky". It's funny, when Dave and I dressed as The Blues Brothers, we looked just like Jake and Elwood (only Dave doesn't have a moustache like Danny Aykroyd did).

I have a great deal of respect for those who can post their own image, and I also respect those, like me, who, for whatever reason, don't.

To quote one of my favorite cartoon characters, Popeye..."I am what I am, and that's all that I am..." (such true words!)

I have to ask...is English your first language? A lot of your posts come off as really condescending. I know I bust your balls a lot but we talked about this and you promised to work on it. You can't START a topic by telling the people reading it that you don't like something about them. Who wants to listen after that?

As far as the avatar goes, I can tell a lot of people have a sense of humor. Some people like comic books. Other people are big softies who love their pets and Centex happens to look a lot like Orlando Bloom. This isn't a dating service, it's a CHAT community. Why would I care what someone looks like if I find them to be funny, supportive or informative? Isn't that what REALLY matters as a person?
Maybe getting online and stepping out of their skin for a couple minutes helps free people up to be more honest, without having to be judged for the skin they're in.
C'mon dude, relax. You could look like Brad Pitt and no-ones gonna wanna know you if you come off like Simon Cowell.

I think that an avatar is personal choice. It doens't have to be of yourself. Personally, I am my own avatar because I'm lazy. I finally put a new one of me on there tonight, though, after 2 years of a bad picture being on there....

I'm glad you changed your avatar Peto. The one you had looked like a cowboy trying to line dance or something, I couldn't really figure it out. I hate those avatars that this site has to choose from. It's either that Asian cartoon series or the Simpsons & South Park. I finally figured out how to get a holiday avatar & then when it was time to change I decided on pepsi since I'm a pepsi drinker. I tried to put my picture on but I got the error message that the file was too big. I don't know how to decrease the size.

Answer by quotations.
Okay. Where to start.

This thread started by a guy that had one photo of himself from the neck down for months. Don't make a decision, and then criticize everyone else. Just my opinion.

I would rather people read my words than look at my avatar.
Now, don't mis-read this. I'm no hunk. (Some people tell me I'm good looking, but I'm not sure if I believe them yet.)
JUB is an online community where communication is largely done with words. Yet we live in a world that is obsessed with youth and good looks. So when push comes to shove, I'd rather be heard than seen.

Thusly, there is no way you could mistake my avatar for me.
Avatar = Red headed, cartoon, female
Me = Blond, real, male

There are some of my pictures is my galleries... so the curious can find them.

Awwww...Brijan. You look adorable in your pix. But I NEVER would have looked at them if you didn't make me laugh first. ;)
