I love Rufus. I got 2 C him a few years back in a small venue in CA and he was amazing. I have too many fave songs, but to name a few: Danny Boy, Gay Messiah, Go or Go Ahead, Beautiful Child and Between My Legs...

Oh, and adding your personal touch to skillz, does not make u dumb ;)

i love rufus wainwright. my favorite song of his is Greek Song and This Love Affair. I also love love love his cover of Hallelujah.

I did initially, but maybe I over-listened to him, because I soon began to find his voice grating and his songs tedious. Now I can't stand him. I think what bothers me the most is the way he slurs through his notes, dragging and dragging them.

I can still listen to Rebel Prince and one or two other songs of his, but I just can't listen to others like Damned Ladies, Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk, or Imaginary Love.

I do listen to his songs on the Brokeback Mountain soundtrack. Those are actually pretty damn good and he doesn't drag his notes as much. The Maker Makes is one of my favorites on the disc :)

I saw Rufus open for Elton John at an AIDS benefit in Philadelphia. He was HORRIBLE! I never saw an audience so bored in my life. (Elton was fantastic, though)

I admit he's very talented as a songwriter, but his voice is is something I can't listen to more than 5 mins.

I love Rufus! I especially love Between My Legs, but others I think are swell are: Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk, Go or Go Ahead, Poses, Vibrate and Vicious World.

His live rendition of Between My Legs is marvelous, and I'm so pleased he had a little contest to find new people to do the spoken part at this concert. That would be great fun!

Rufus is incredibly sexy, too. All that fur on his chest...woof!

I saw Rufus last month and it was fantastic. He musta had a bad night at that Elton gig, because he was spot on. I'm a fan.

Rufus is coming to Melbourne in February, got my tix today.

(!)(!)(!)

I'm in "Row W" which sounds ridiculously far away from the action.

Oh well.

Should be awesome anyway.

Haha

Does that mean I get to sit next to him?

Do you think he'll mind if I do some backing vocals?

I'm seeing him on January 29th here in Sydney.

I prefer the "Poses" CD, particularly the song "Poses".
I also love the song "Dinner at Eight" which he wrote about his father. Beautiful song.

He kind of loses me with all the overproduction, the flourishes, the flounce of his last couple of CD's.......but there's no denying his amazing talent.
I'm going to see him mainly to be in the presence of that amazing voice of his.
Should be great!

Rufus Wainwright does a trio with Shawn Colvin and Ann Wilson on Ann's new CD Hope and Glory. I heard it this weekend and it's fantastic.

Rufus can be a little hit or miss live. Great songwriter, but he can be a little pitchy at times. For the most part, I like him though.

The only reason I bought his self-titled album was because I read somewhere he was gay, and I really wanted to hear what he sounded like (plus, the CD was relatively cheap).

"Baby" is a beautiful song; one of my favourites.

His version of "Across the Universe" is pretty good, but I know some people don't like it.

Right now, my favourite song has to be "Going to a Town". I usually don't like any singles because that's the song most people will know artists by, but I really like that song.

Oh, and "Evil Angel" scares me. It really does. I can't listen to it anymore. :(

I know a lot of people who feel this way and it always confuses me. If it's a good song, it's a good song... no matter who else knows or likes it. I can understand that sometimes songs get over-played, but to actively not like a song because it's popular (or not, as is often the case on this board) is odd to me.

I know a lot of people share your opinion as well. Take, for example, an artist such as Vanessa Carlton. Most people know her by her poppy single in 2002 "A Thousand Miles" (and maybe even her second, "Ordinary Day"). But basically after that, her songs dropped off the radar. She had a second album, released in 2004, but because her record label did a bad job of promoting it, nothing really happened, and nobody really caught on.

Vanessa has a lot better, deeper, meaningful songs than her only hit that most people know her by, but because some people only listen to radio/mainstream music, that other side doesn't get exposed, and people just classify her as one of those Avril Lavgine-y, Michelle Branch-ish kinda girls, when she's not. People get the wrong sense of who she is, as well as her music.

In the case of Rufus, however, I think "Going to a Town" reflects his style of music well and although he isn't wildly mainstream, it works for who he is as an artist.

There's probably more I could say, but I'll leave it at that.

Oh, and by the way, Vanessa's first single "Nolita Fairytale", off of her coming CD, is out! Have a listen!

He was on TV over here in the UK this week. He did a concert at the London Palladium which was a 'remake' of a famous Judy Garland performance from the 1960s. It was stunning - he's a really talented guy and at times he almost looked like her!!!

There's a song on 'Want Two' called 'The Art Teacher' - sheer bliss.

I must admit I am unfamiliar with his self-penned music, but I liked his cover of "Across the Universe," however, I could not get enough of his stirring rendition of Pal Joey's "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered" off "The History Boys" soundtrack.

...I'll sing to him,
each Spring to him,
& worship the trousers
that cling to him.
Bewitched, bothered
& Bewildered, am I...

I recently have gotten into Rufus and I've love "Greek Song", "Dinner At Eight", and "The Maker Makes". I also love his covers of Leonard Cohen. Among the many covers of "Halleujah", his is probably my favorite.

I LOVE Rufus...I discovered him when Cigarettes & Chocolate milk was released...it's still one of my fav. songs ;) He's a great songwriter and I really like his voice - it's different than most other voices and yes, I do think he CAN sing.
I've heard he'll release a live album soon? I hope it's true :)
