Hey guys I just wanted to get some dvds and wanted to no some of the saddest movies out there by this i mean i like movies which are deep, shocking and usually have a sad death in them it may b a bit morbid but i like them. Don't like war movies though or gangster ones so does anyone know any brilliant others like ones which aren't really recognized for there greatness it would b a big help to me thanks.

Theres a thread like this somewhere. I think its called 'Depressing Movies' or something like that. :)

The Trip to Bountiful - Geraldine Page - A Brilliant Peformance.

The Inn of the Sixth Happiness - Robert Donat - he was dying from asthma at the time the film was being made. He was determined to finish his last film ever. It was probably the most touching peformance he gave during his short career.

Madame X with Lana Turner.

Excellent suggestion. I'd like to add "Mildred Pierce" starring Joan Crawford, "Jezebel" & " All This And Heaven Too" starring Bette Davis, "Stella Dallas" starring Barbara Stanwyck.

Just off the top of my head - White Squall with Jeff Bridges or The Killing Fields with Sam Waterson or Rabbit-Proof-Fence which is an Australian film...

All are based on true stories and I defy you to watch any of these without blubbing :(

Add to sissyboy's list two great ones: Dark Victory -Bette Davis and Humphrey Bogart; Ida Lupino and Humphrey Bogart in -shit I just forgot the title - a gangster film - black and white. She plays his gun moll and he gets killed at the end in the Sierra Madres mountains (I think).

Just off the top of my head - White Squall with Jeff Bridges...

Absolutely! Scott Wolf has a soliloquy during the "Court of Inquiry" at the end that just tears me up every time I see it.

House of Sand and Fog

My Life Without Me

The Times of Harvey Milk <--- I don't cry in public, but I had such a hard time fighting back tears when I watched this in class.

Hey, back at you - I remembere the Ida Lupino. Humphrey Bogart movie -High Sierra" . They don't make them like that anymore.
Also add to the list "Fearless" - Jeff Bridges, Isabella Rossellini and Rosy Lopez. I cried buckets - It was after this movie that I made the biggest decision in my life.

Thanks guys those were really helpful I thought Mulholland Drive was pretty sad is there anymore like that and Requiem For A Dream and The Notebook. why don't you like sad movies.

Well, I think "Mulholland Drive" is the hardest movie for me to understand, it took me 1-2 years to understand it after watching time and time again.

Requeim for A Dream...that movie is by far the saddest...there's no happy ending for any of the characters in that movie!

Here are some sad movies that I really enjoyed, these are Asian movies though:

The Road Home - Chinese
My Brother - South Korean
The Way Home - South Korean
Dosti (Friendship) - Indian (Bollywood)
