the post hates HRC, so this is odd.

I figured the Clintons and Obama cut a deal sometime before the convention. One of them would get the next opening on the Court, and the other would get juicy cabinet post. However I was thinking AG.

Bubba would be AWESOME on the bench!
 
I posted this yesterday in another thread, but I can see this transpiring. Hillary is obviously very competent and would do well in this role.

I only hope that this isn't more rumor being started by the Media, that doesn't lead to another big let down for her supporters, since we really don't need that at the moment. However, I do know she was in Illinois yesterday "on business".

I just can't see her going to work for him.

If it does happen however I do think it reflects very well on the both of them.
 
As much as I would love to see Hillary in the position, I would be very surprised if she accepts it, for all the reasons that RemoteControl stated above. Even if Obama is successful, gets re-elected for a second term and she had 4 more years as SoS. After that, then what? There is no question that she would be a fantastic SoS.

I agree with a lot of what the rest of you are saying about this topic. Hilary was asked about this and said this was a matter for President-Elect Barack Obama.

I feel that she would be great as the SOS but, these are two rival parties and it really depends on how well they would be able to come together. This could end up being a bad deal for all parties involved.

If she can see her way past a certain blue dress, she can certainly work with Obama!

I think she'd be a great AG myself, but then she is building up a power base in the senate, as is her senior, Chuck Schumer.

Then next vacancy on the court will likely go to a woman. Maybe that's what she'll get, though Bill would probably be a better Justice. Bubba's a gifted legal writer, among other things. His opinions would be a joy to read.

I wonder if he's on the AG short list. Crimson usually looks out for Crimson.
 
The Huffington Post is reporting that Obama offered Clinton the job of Secretary of State, I do not know how true this is as mainstream media is only saying she is being considered for the job.

If she is offered the job she may take it, she doesn't really have any seniority in the senate she is only a junior senator and she is not leading any of the main issues like health care, that belongs to senator Kennedy and senator Dodd would be next inline after Kennedy to lead on that issue.

The main point is if offered would she be willing to leave her senate seat for a less secure job like Secretary of State.
 
She would have the opportunity to do something important at State. Let's face it, the Senate is the dregs for someone not running for President and not willing to stay there for 30 years. It's a good move for both of them.

Who would get the NY Senate job?

I agree. Most senators dont' really enjoy the job and the beauracracy. Obama didn't care for the job.

Someone alluded to the Clinton brand as a negative in regards to Hills as SOS. I disagree. For this job, that brand is a positive. Bill C. was loved around the world; I think the Clinton brand is probably stronger abroad than at home. When you consider the disdain that people now have for America, I think Hillary Clinton would, along with Obama, change those negative views. She is very smart and well-studied and, more importantly, well-prepared. In those early Dem debates with a stage full of candidates, she and Biden routinely whipped the others on foreign affair issues. We keep hearing about John Kerry, but frankly, while he can speak many different languages, I thought his campaign showed him to lack fire, will and judgement that is necessary for SOS.
 
When I heard this on TV last night, I had to check the channel to make certain I hadn't accidentally tuned into The Colbert Report!

Despite being an Admitted Feminist, he now has to keep up the act that he was a Republican all along, and trash Hillary, since he knows it doesn't make a shred of sense supporting her in the Primaries, and then hopping over to the Republican ticket.
 
As a political move, it is smart in a Machiavellian way. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

As a practical matter, not so smart. Obama is the most inexperienced person to ever inhabit the White House. She has absolutely no experience as a diplomat. I'm not seeing the upside.
 
One way to look at a good administrator or leader is to see who they surround themselves with. Abraham Lincoln appointed political rivals to his cabinet to utilize their strengths.

Obama would be picking probably the #2 heavyweight in the Democratic Party. Like him or hate him, Bill Clinton is loved around the world and, with Bush I, has built up a lot of political power and appreciation through various efforts. Hillary would be able to capitalize on that standing.

Hillary is a junior senator. She is not a committee chairperson and has a lot of older folks ahead of her getting one. As SOS, she would be able to assist crafting policy that could be directly implemented around the world.

Obama is showing that he is a powerful leader by being willing and able to choose his strongest rival as part of his team.
 
It offers risk and reward for Obama. On the plus side, it makes it less likely that disgruntled Hillary supporters will take pot shots at his administration and since the Clintons will be invested in his presidency they will have a vested interest in being cooperative. Also, Hillary is competent, knowledgeable and viewed as tough so he would getter better PR than if he appointed a milquetoast like Kerry. The flip side is that she can be difficult and Bill can be a handful too. Also, there may be real philosophical differences in their approach and she is more likely to go the noisy resignation route than a more compliant Secretary such as Richardson.

For her, the plus is that she gets permanent recognition and a high profile job that is a lot more fun than being just one senator. The downside is no job security and she gives up a safe senate seat. I doubt Majority Leader is in the cards since most of her Democratic colleagues didn't support her candidacy.

I don't know how serious Obama is about appointing her but if he picks someone else (please God not Kerry) it looks better for him if she was being seriously considered. The only thing worse than not being picked is not even being considered.

^I would normally prefer a career diplomat, but the campaign argument that she is inexperienced has never held up. She was in the White House as a partner with Bill for eight years and has travelled the world meeting world leaders. Her personality ensured a substantive involvement, she was never a Mrs. Reagan or Laura Bush. She also has the best of foreign policy advisors like Albright and Holbrooke and Bill.
