Santos is expected to appear as soon as Wednesday at federal court in New York’s eastern district, where the charges have been filed under seal.

Here’s what is known about the irregularities in Santos’s filings:

-1,200 payments of $199.99, two cents below the threshold where receipts would be required.
-an unregistered fund that raised vast sums for Santos
-a line item for $40,000 for air travel.
-a payment of $11,000 to a company called Cleaner 123 for “apartment rental for staff” for a house on Long Island that neighbors said Santos had been living in himself.
-Santos’ campaign eventually amended the campaign finance disclosures 36 times and may have misrepresented contributions.
-contributions disappeared entirely from the record.

This may be shorter than the usual 2 year turnaround. The gist of the case is that his 2020 campaign reports contradict his 2022 campaign reports and he filed for and accepted COVID relief funds that he was not entitled to; those are easy charges to prove. The embezzlement and falsification charges are harder to prove.

Looking at what they've charged him with and the "tip of the iceberg" nature of it and the unlikely chance of a Presidential pardon, his lawyer may tell him to take a plea deal, which would likely result in a short Federal prison sentence.
