If you feel you must, shave your pubes man. I've done it with an electric shaver before. I don't know that lube and a razor would have a different effect.
One thing though man, is don't shave your balls. Shave or trim the pubes if you must. Balls though, I've read that the hair there doesn't always grow back, and sometimes it does but not to the extent before the shaving.

When shaving your balls, use shaving cream. To shave your bush, a good pair of clippers are essential. ConAir is great, buy the kind used for your hair it cuts through all hair and you wont have any risk of cutting yourself. It also has many adjustable lengths so that you decide how long you want your pubes to be.

If you want your balls smooth, you have to use shaving cream or a shaving gel. I would not "dry shave" them. That's why you got the razor burn and irritation. That is a VERY sensitive area!! Also, someone mentioned that the hair might not grow back. I have NEVER known that to happen. Any hair you shave will grow back unless you are naturally bald. In fact, that's one of things I hate about shaving the balls....once you do, you are forever shaving them because it does grow back.

I've been shaving my Pubic , Dick, and Balls Hair for about ten years or more ... I use Barbasole for Sensative Skin and the Bic Disposable Razors for Sensative Skin ...
I now have less hair on the balls than I did when I first started leaving me to believe that some of the hair does actually die or quits growing .... and .. the hair takes longer now to return when it does come back ....
I now shave about every 10-14 days to keep myself smooth downstairs ... NOTE: after each shave; I apply a nice soothing moisturizing body lotion with aloe to the area.

Use the Norelco Bodygroom. It works like a charm with little to no irritation. Although it's about 40 bucks, it pays for itself by not having to buy extra razors to do areas other than the face.

Shaving the pube is easy if you use Nair... just don't use it on your actual genital area. Just north of the penis and you are good. With the balls and around the shaft, I trim with a beard trimmer first and then use shaving cream and a razor. Go slow and careful. With your balls... squeeze them until they look like they are gonna pop and then shave them as well. You have to be careful, but it works for me. (I will admit that cutting yourself may happen the first few times, but it is not that bad and you will do better each time).

As I've said prior ... I think the Barbasol for sensative skin and the Bic Disposable razor for sensative skin are good for shaving pubes, Dick, and balls ... just don't rush .... and .. always use a NEW razor ... (can save you some nicks and cuts)
