tonight's episode of Family Guy? Personally, the only time I usually found myself laughing or smiling was when the jokes were not related to the gay gene. What were your thoughts?

I thought it was funny, I won't be surprised if some gays take offense to it, some people have paper-thin feelings. That show has been over-the-top since day one, the same gays who get mad at tonight's jokes will be some of the same ones who laugh at the black jokes and cripple jokes. It's not like the show is low-key or subtle, it's not like you don't know what to expect every episode.

They're the ONLY show I've seen take jabs at religious extremists and homophobia, but I guess they don't get any credit for that.

I was offended, but not by the stereotypes. I was offended by the fact that it just was not funny. There was no wit. Personally, I have no issue with the use of stereotypes as long as there is some sort of contextual purpose. Oh well...

Anyway, the reason I introduced this thread is that I had seen how some guys, on this board as well as others, were discussing this episode before it debuted. I was just surprised that no one had made a thread about it after the fact.

How does that differ from what they normally do?

I think that my specific issue with Peter's having the gay gene was that he transformed into a stereotype suddenly, with no true direction for it, when they have not consistently expressed that with all of their gay characters.

It's the same as when The Simpsons had gone through the same phase as well. Although Family Guy has always been more conspicuous and it carried a different style of humor.

If you analyze every episode like this, you can find holes in every episode.

I agree. Plus, analyzing jokes, specially as it's being done in this thread, takes the fun and sense of humor away from them, IMO.

Seriously, since when do we scrutinize Family Guy this hard? What would you expect from Family Guy? Moderate, sensible, non-stereotypical jokes?

But of course! Haven't you heard? Censorship is a gift from baby Jesus.

I thought it was funny, and they made their point the way they usually do, by being as subtle as a sledge hammer to the side of the head.

I thought it was very funny, and kept in line with their usual twisted sense of humor. Family Guy is known for going over the top, and that's exactly what they did last night. If you're going to pitch a hissy over stereotyping gays you should also flip your wig over the handicap jokes, the jokes about Michael J. Fox and Parkinson's, racial jokes and everything else they lambaste on a weekly basis.

I'm going to watch it in a few mins. But I'm not going to get offended. It's family guy, who cares. It's just a tv show. Now the people who are dumb enough to watch the show and think that's how gays act....there the ones we need to be a scared of! :)

It was funny at some points and wasn't at others.

I think the brain dead horse cracked me up far more than the gay gene thing. In fact, the really unfunny moment for me in the whole episode for me was the whole "gay for you" dinner.

The lifetime skit though, had me and my twin laughing out loud.

That's what I am saying. I was not offended by the stereotype itself, as I remember Brian's gay cousin, but the jokes were not funny. Like you, I thought the autistic horse was funnier than the jokes related to the gay gene.

Maybe you're right and I am being overanalytical. I guess it may be that after seeing shows like Family as well as Family Guy itself, I would have thought that the jokes would have brought something more. However, allow me to clarify that I am not offended by the stereotypes as someone who has been a fan of Drawn Together, South Park, King of the Hill, Futurama, The Boondocks, The PJs, etc.

I thought it was pretty funny but some parts they were trying too hard.

 @ the retarded horse. It was just creepy. I did enjoy seeing Peter gay it up and all his new looks. That was funny.

I also thought the slow horse scenes were funnier than the gay scenes, but as a whole my sister and I were laughing a ton

~Loved Peter's wardrobe changes, every time he entered a new scene a different ill-fitting silly 'gay' outfit
(the Hello Kitty shirt and the pair of Uggs OMG)

~The Lifetime clown rape thing was funny

~"We're here, we're queer, but don't get used to it because I'm leaving you"

~When Stewie kept eating the horse sperm even after he found out it wasn't milk

But it seems pretty obvious that FG is one of, if not the most liberal shows of its genre, so I appreciate their sense humor and was not at all offended by the episode

I liked the episode, but like somebody else said mostly for the non-gay jokes. I'm a 100% FG addict so I expected some better material outta Seth. The horse bits were funny, and random stuff here-and-there. The whole gay stereotypical stuff is just so overdone it's just annoying to see anymore. And seeing Stewie not embrace his gayness or bi-ness, whatever he is, was really awkward. >_>
