So, I've always had a song going in my head for as long as I can remember. Sometimes it's not bad, and times I have a song in my head I really loathe. And that can be troubling.

If I hear a song I really like sometimes I can't get right to sleep because it's going on and on and on and on and on and, well, you get the idea.

I've googled and come up with nothing.

My doc doesn't think much of it, but I do.

So, is this common? What is it? Is there anything I can do?

Thanx gals!

try getting it stuck in someone else's head. Pass it on. I find it works sometimes

Its called an "ear-worm".:( I get them when I'm tired and stressed. Sorry but I can't make any suggestions on how to get rid of them!

Is it always the same song? With me it's "Midnight at the Oasis" (Maria Muldahr). I don't know what it is but it bubbles up a couple of times every month for the last few years. I'm beginning to hate the song. Maybe I can give it to you?

The songs vary. But I can always fall back on Vivaldi if I have to replace something rather nasty.

It's just bothersome.

I remember an old show of sorts with Bobcat as some club owner. He kept hearing voices and such so he jammed long q-tips in his ears. I'm almost to that point.

A little scotch and some good herb put it at bay, but I really shouldn't go around all day stoned and knackered.

Anyhoo, I'm pleased to find I'm not the only one. Thanks gals.

You might want to consider seeing a psychiatrist, if you can handle all the attached stigma. I'm not saying that you are "crazy", but a very low-dose anti-psychotic medication may be helpful for you.

The method I heard based off of a study that theorized that songs stuck in our heads were a lot alike to computer viruses (specifically worms) is that a person should sing the song out loud.

Yeh. I have a ticking clock that gets me to sleep most nights. That or some Gregorian Chant. =]

BTW Mole2006, welcome to JUB!

"ear bug"

The WORST for me is "It's a Small World After All"

Yet, I can use that song to completely over-write any other annoying ear bug and then get rid of Disney with a more-pleasant tune (much like weakened rabies virus can help treat cancer.)

It happens a couple times to me...I always find it best to concentrate on another song and start singing that in your head.
