Considering all of the beef that's in the show, I'm surprised that no one has started a thread about this show.

I watched the premiere last night, and it was pretty cool. It wasn't as sophisticated as a "Rome" and it took a lot of influence from "300."

The lead character is very sexy, as well as the two other actors playing gladiators.

Supposedly it will feature gay sex (according to the newspaper) but I haven't heard at what capacity, i.e. if it will be a main plot, a subplot, or just window dressing. Oddly enough though, one of characters insulted another character by calling him a "boy lover," which isn't historically correct. The word in Greek is "pederast," and man/teenage boy relationships were the most acceptable form of homosexuality at the time, so "boy lover" wouldn't have been an insult. (Incidentally there was however a slander that meant "female lover" or "softy" as such guys were often accused of adultery.)

Oh the whole it was pretty hot. I'll try to post some pics of the actors a little later, if someone else doesn't beat me to it.

I caught the premiere last night too. It was alright. Like you said, it's definitely not as sophisticated as Rome, or even 300 for that matter.

Spartacus B&S =
30% 300
30% Gladiator
30% T&A/soft-core porn
10% Rome

I can definitely see the influences in the show. I don't know if they even bothered to be subtle. lol. And I found the writing and acting to be a little on the clunky side. I hope this show improves, but then again I'm mostly in it for the male eye candy (please, fewer gratuitous titty shots please!).

I just caught the show, I don't know what to think of it though. But alot of delicious hunks.

This show is absolutely laughable. The dialogue sucks, the stop motion technique is so overused it's hard to watch and the storyline has been done a thousand times. The "groundbreaking sex" is the news if we ever get to see it. And the blood is just a computer generated red paint that is so fake it's not even awful to watch. It looks like a cartoon. Save your $19 bucks a month.

I heard an interview with Lucy Lawless on Sirius satellite radio a couple of days ago... and she says episode 9 will be especially "hot" and contain lots of nudity. She also said that a least one gladiator was "gay" for lack of a better term.

I've recorded it, but haven't watched it yet... will try to tonight. I hope it's fun (but I'm not expecting anything more than blood and sex... so if a little more comes through, that'll be a bonus).

:-)

I've watched the first two episodes. It seems very poorly made, but you could say, it's supposed to look like that and be fine with it. Some strange comics style or something.

I think the storyline might be great in the end! at the end of the second episode I did want to know how the show proceeds.

erm, what else. the nudity is nice :)

and I enjoy the fighting!

(I feel bad for my straight best friend though, who was incredibly looking forward to blood and sand. I mean apart from that, the girls aren't really hot. So, I guess, yeay for being gay!)

Actually I didn't find Rome all that "sophisticated". At least season 1, I've yet to see season 2. The acting was decent, but there was virtually no action and the nudity was mostly gratuitous. The story was basically Shakespeare's Julius Caesar rewritten by daytime soap writers. It was decent entertainment, but "sophisticated" isn't a word that comes to mind when I think of that series.

Have you had the chance to compare it with BBC's "I, Claudius?"

They also left out Julius Caesar's and Marc Antony's bisexual tendencies.

Watched Spartacus last night and found it to be entertaining. Yeah, there was lots of beefcake to leer at, but I think they are setting up some interesting story lines. It's going to be an adolescent inspired show filled with simple plot lines, soft-core sex scenes, and glorious violent fights with buckets of CGI blood. I find it interesting how comfortable audiences are getting with male nudity, I guess we all realizing what good for the goose is good for the gander.

I'm going try to watch it next week. it is anything like the last Starz series Traffic its going to suck.

I thought it was alright.

Hopefully the show will get better as it goes on. I am happy though that unlike other hollywood films they will not be ignoring the fact that there were relationships between men.

Even though they're not ignoring that ancient cultures didn't repress homosexuality, they're still not giving an accurate historical picture of the attitudes of the times.

I watched the 1st episode last night...The first 15-20min was slow...It didnt get interesting until the final half..

I Like how the Women bared it all..We'll see if things livin up a bit more in the next episode..

They need to step it up a little but overall I really enjoyed it. Great love scenes, lots of hot men & great fight sequences.

Well they haven't unveiled the gay gladiator yet, but it was loaded with male nudity this week!

Last Friday's episode finally showed some Gladiator Butt-Fucking...Maybe a good 5-seconds.....The Top was a Gladiator and the Bottom was their training camp "water-boy"...The Good looking men appear to be of Latino descent...

This show is pretty good and I like their spin on the story....Spartacus has the viewer by the heart-strings because we understand the only reason he refuses to give-up is "hope"...That's all he has left..

Spartacus is "hoping" to see his wife again...I believe she's already dead...In the last few episodes we've seen her in his Dreams and in "visions" but that's it...

Perhaps they decided not to tell her story as a captured "slave" and we will see her "alive" in upcoming episodes...But I think poor Spartacus is in for a terrible discovery...
