I thought the series was dreadful from the start. I watched the occasional episode to see if it would get better, but it failed on so many levels. I thought the finale was very poorly written. The series seemed to suffer bad writing consistently and it struck me that it was trying to be too many things, all wrapped-up in one series...too much drawn from Battlestar Galactica, Stargate SG1 and even some Star Trek and Star Wars thrown into the mix. The cast, which included some quite talented actors, simply could not overcome the poorly written scenes and dialogue. I say...good riddance to bad rubbish!

I enjoy sci-fi and have been a fan of the Stargate family of series. I liked the original Stargare movie so was glad when SG1 came along. This series did seem to suffer from something. The finale was lame although it certainly leaves the door open to more episodes or movie sequels.

What I will miss are the scenes with a shirtless Brian J Smith. He is a very good looking man. :D

This finale is BULLSHIT!!!
I'm pissed off, quite frankly. What the fuck was this shit I just watched? This ain't no finale! It's a waste of time, that's what it is.

The series lacked a sense of direction. With SG1 and Atlantis there was a sense of direction,a clear purpose. Universe, although I've enjoyed it, didn't have a clear purpose, plot wise.

I hope they make a movie in the near future but I doubt it. They were to release an Atlantis movie and even that isn't sure and we've been waiting for how long now? Nearly two years for it to happen. Yet they've wasted money with a pointless SG1 movie...fuck those assholes! They don't know what the fuck they're doing. Ugh!

Has everyone forgotten that the show was canceled 1.5 seasons in, and left the producers 10 shows to wrap up the series? I'm sure they had a five year plan and given the LT relationship Stargate has had on SyFy, never thought they would be canceled. I'm glad the ending left the door open for another incarnation of the series or perhaps a movie, TV or big screen. It was a job well done and a great series, I'll miss it.

Stargate has really gone downhill.

As a sequel Atlantis was good but not as good as SG1, and didn't have the longevity SG1 had, it got stale after a while.

And this second spinoff series was just awful, not even close to what Atlantis was.

Maybe they need to give it a rest and move on to something else.

I gave up on SGU in the middle of the first season. Even Brian J Smith couldn't keep me tuning in. Far-too-many characters to keep track of, especially when they started swapping bodies. You needed a scorecard for each episode just to keep track of who was who.

I couldn't get into Atlantis, either. Just a few early episodes were enough to tell me that I didn't want to watch it anymore.

How could you not like the finale? It was one of the best episodes of the entire series. The last scene with everyone in stasis except Eli, standing on the observation deck with beautiful music playing...great way to send off a good show.

Who knows, maybe they'll revive it years down the road with some of the characters coming out of their pods allowing a new series to take off. Slim chance but you never know. We'll see how well Battlestar Galactica Blood & Chrome does.

I thought SGU had very high production values and made the other two SG series look cartoony at times.

I think the show would have made anything more cartoony given how depressing it was. I'm not asking for all sf to be hopeful and such, but there's only so long I can watch something that downright depressing before wanting the return of ABC's sitcom Fridays, and that's sorta scary....

I really liked SGU, better than the previous incarnations by far. It was slightly dark and slow, but this last season I thought had turned that around and was hitting it's stride.

The last episode was shot as a season finale, not a series finale. They didn't know they were getting cancelled until shooting was done. I don't get SyFy either. They put on some real crap and then cancel other stuff that seems decent. And it's not just them, Fox canceled Chicago Code which was one of the better new shows recently, but what do I know I guess...

The initial plan was to make 1-2 DVD movies after the final episode. however this got postboned indefinitely :(

i agree .. while the episode had quite a few week points (especially the sudden willingness to do any kind of risky and complicated plan just all over a sudden), it was a really nice ending.

Perhaps Stargate Machu Picchu is in the future?

I've preordered the Stargate Atlantis complete series on Blu-ray.
Amazon has it for 114.99, not bad for 20 discs/60 hours.

July 26! (!)
