Survivor - Fans vs. Favorites

Brenda HAD to play quiet this season. She not "not playing" just because she was under the radar and the edit didn't focus her for many episodes. She was an outsider from day one after the Francesca vote and it would have made no sense for her to go with the fans in the post-merge. She played a cold, strategic, proactive game in her first season and it got her tenth place. This time she played a more laid-back, friendlier game and it got her sixth and she was perhaps an immunity or two away from winning the entire game. Call me crazy but I think the second strategy worked better for her.

+ If u watch "Brenda the day after" She explains what u just said, and she said that she was tryin to make them think that she was not into the game.

I agree it workd

This is a vicious little pack of ugly people, I mean underdogs.

Slipintothefog nailed it. When you come in as a returning payer with a rep for playing hard, the best thing to do is undermine that rep. The fact that Brenda was SO low key was an obvious attempt to correct what she felt got her booted in Nicaragua (and to a certain extent, all non-crazy returning players play to "fix the errors" of their original season whether that is valid or not). Considering she could've easily won this last challenge, Eddie would've been booted, and with the kinds of people left in the game Brenda could've gone on an endgame immunity streak that got her into the finals, I'd say she made the right strategic move. Her only shot was winning those last few immunity challenges and she failed to do that unfortunately.

I do not like this sea-hag label. I hate Terry Deitz with a passion, but I would never say something that crude.

On a porny/snarky gay message board full of bitchy gay men, that is one of the LEAST crude things I could say.

I watch Survivor and Big Brother in a bifurcated way: who's the best player (almost always, the person who wins) and who do I enjoy the most? If I'm lucky, sometimes those two things will be the same (Jun on BB/Sandra on Survivor). In an objective appraisal of game moves, Cochran/Dawn/Sherri absolutely made the right move for themselves in booting Brenda, but as a viewer/fan with my own personal preference, Cochursula and his pet eels -- including the manic-depressive, bipolar sea-hag with no teeth -- backstabbed my queen.

I'd even go as far as saying that Brenda would have won the game if she didn't give up the last challenge to Dawn. Because that would have gotten her to final five, and it clearly looks like somebody (Erik?) is leaving the game without a vote at the finale. So only one more challenge win against Cochran, Sherri and Dawn would gotten Brenda to the final three.

Yeah I think it's VERY likely Brenda would've won. Which is why 1) it's never a good idea to bet on winning challenges as a primary strategy and 2) Cochran was absolutely correct in getting her out when he had the chance.

Basically it was never a good idea for anyone to let Brenda get to the end. I was just hoping the rest of them wouldn't figure that out. :(

Imagine if she had won though, the editors would've had to show a lot more of her during the season to telegraph/justify the win.

tthank you ad then dawn is wondering why she will loose the money..it would have benefitted her final game to cut cochran and erik and eddie and get the kudos for it. she was in the right spot and she didnt even see it.

Honestly, Dawn is so whiny/crazy/annoying I really don't see ANY way she could realistically win against any of these people. Her only shot was going to the F3 with people who would make her look more sane/less annoying by comparison so...Philip and Brandon?

Brenda's non-existent edit in the early days all makes sense after seeing how she went out after giving up her family visit for everyone else and then being betrayed by Dawn. It's really fucking lame but the editors have a habit of neutering people in the edit when they get screwed over by twists so that there's not as much outrage when they lose. Nearly all of the early victims of the Hidden Immunity Idols -- Stacy in Fiji, Alexis in Micro, Kelly in Samoa -- got minuscule edits so that fans wouldn't protest when those people lost due to the idols. I think Cirie was the first time an idol victim still got a respectable edit.

It also tends to happen to people who were very close to winning the entire game but came up just short, so we don't care as much that they narrowly lose. Brett in Samoa for example just had to win that last challenge and he would have won it all. Even Jerri was kind of like that in HvV, although either of Sandra or Parvati probably still would have beaten her and Russell.

Oh ALSO if somebody quits or gets medevaced during the finale, Brenda will have been screwed over in both of her seasons. If you remember, the double quit in Nicaragua happened right after Brenda was voted out the first time too. So everybody better fucking stay in the game on Sunday night. >:O

Hmm interesting theory and it certainly makes sense.

I know Dawn isn't getting any votes, but I would laugh my ass off if anti-Cochran sentiment is high and Sherri ends up fucking winning.

I would not count Dawn out at the finals. Most of her crying has been when she is away from the people at camp. But, God forbid she should show any human emotions while playing this game. Stephenie cried a lot and she is still a huge favorite.

Over all, this is called Fans vs Favorites. I have not seen a bigger fan of this show than Cochran. So, it would be great if he won.

It's not about showing emotions dude, it's about crying ALL THE TIME. Which all the eliminated castaways have talked about. She's clearly an unstable person -- my guess is manic-depressive -- and as I said before, having lived with someone like that in real life, I can tell you it gets very tiresome very quickly, and the last thing you want to do is reward that person. If you watch the Ponderosa videos on CBS, you'll see there's no love for Dawn on the jury. I would be shocked if she even gets one vote other than Philip (and even he might not vote for her).

I will say I have a lot of respect for Dawn's husband. Dude must have remarkable fortitude.

While it was a personal betrayal on Dawn's part, it was the right strategic move to boot Brenda
I don't think so in this particular case. at least not for the million. Maybe if she was playing for second or third prize. If she hadn't built an obvious friendship with Brenda or was more likeable among the jury, then it would be different and a proper strategic move. But betraying Brenda did nothing for her chances to win the million. It just made her look more like the two-faced bitch she is. Betrayal is not a strategy, it's simply a choice.

Even though, based on the editing, Sherri hasn't got a fucking shot in hell, I still think she's played the best game out of the final five and I'd want her to win for that reason. She dominated the Fans with an iron vagina until the swap and, even after the merge, she seemed to get in with Stealth R Us and move up the ranks effortlessly, even though they've diminished her edit down to nothing. There's never been any indication that she was at the bottom of the Favorites alliance even though obviously she should have been, as even Reynold and Eddie were against her at the merge, and clearly since she's outlasted a bunch of the Favorites she was doing something right. She definitely had a much harder road to where she is than Cochran did, considering Cochran was friends with like 60% of the Favorites tribe before the game even started.

Also in response to the last few posts, I'd argue that booting Brenda was in Cochran's best interests but NOT Dawn's. Dawn was in the middle of two alliances of three -- Coch/Sherri/Dawn and Brenda/Erik/Dawn -- and she could have remained non-committal and went with the easy boot of Eddie (since she was the deciding vote) to give her another round of not having to create any bitter jurors. It's funny that she seems so adamant on playing her own game when really all she's doing is paving the way for a roasting at the finals while Cochran runs away with the win.

When you're right, you're right.

And to go back to what I was saying before about returning players trying desperately to fix what they think they did wrong on their original season, Dawn keeps saying her big mistake before was doing what Cochran told her to do and I'm just like, "Um...girl?"

From my vantage point, the move was the correct one because you're eliminating someone who could win. You know going into TC that Brenda's good deed of the day would be divulged, most likely solidifying jury votes. Dawn's annoying (now and on her first outing) but I don't despise her like many show fans do. I hope she demonstrates some true guts and guile and blindsides Cochran. I don't know why Dawn, Eddie, Erik and Sherri don't realize how big of a threat Cochran is. They clearly haven't watched the show as intently as long-time fans have.

Dawn was actually my favorite in South Pacific and she even tweeted me a couple of times on Twitter back then <3, but she's been such a wackjob this season and not at all what I expected her edit to be. I knew she betrayed Brenda and it sounded like she would be a cold-blooded assassin which actually made my heart aflutter based her demographic and her first outing, but this is... so not that, lol.

Total co-sign. I don't think Dawn can win AT ALL at this point, but clearly the best bet for Dawn/Eric/Sherri is to take each other to the finale. The three of them really should/could team up to take out Cochran and Eddie, but they probably won't because Eric is an idiot, Dawn is a mess, and Sherri thinks she's running shit.

Frome Bendas itvw

How is your relationship with Dawn now? That seemed like such a betrayal, especially after her whole retainer meltdown.

"There is no relationship now with Dawn. I would not actively seek out one. If it wasn't for the live finale, I would not want to talk to her or anything like that. It's not coming from a place of bitterness, it's coming more from having a choice of the people I want in my life and the people that I don't. I have good people that I'd rather be hanging out and talking to than someone like her."

There is so much hate towards Danw at ponderosa that theres absolutely NO WAY she can win even against sherri & Eddie

Eddie isn't really a goat at all. He definitely would have Reynold, and probably has Michael, Malcolm and maybe even Andrea's votes, which is four out of the eight jurors. Just another reason why Dawn should have axed him instead of giving him a chance of pulling a Fabio.

An idiot and a waste of space for the 2nd time. I'm sure his big blunder and soccer mom appeal is the reason why they brought him back but the dude can't play Survivor worth shit! Yep, I know he's a nice guy but they've had a lot of nice guys (and girls) on the show over the past 13 years. Erik's no stand-out in the "nice" dept.

I wonder if Dawn's Mormonism contributes to her mental fragility during the game. No judgments. Just thinking out loud.

Has Cochran's name even been written down @ TC this season? If he wins, I put him in my 'They-Obeyed-All-Me-All-The-Way-To-Victory' category with Boston Rob, Kim, Sandra, JT, Parvati, Todd, Earl, Yul, Tom, Chris, Brian, Tina & Richard.

That s sooo true. And I do think that IF cochran doesnt make it to the final, Eddie will win. Which will be ending the season very badlyI dont like cochran AT ALL but he needs to win to save whats left of this season
