Survivor Gabon Cast Is Up!

I know everyone dislikes Marcus, Charile, Corrine, and Randy, but did anyone have a problem with Ace's "testimonial"?

I mean he admitted that because he was more educated, more articulate, more travelled, that he had a problem connecting with the other players. What an ASS! Not the best way to play the game.

As for Charlie, I thought I coudn't like him less, but when I watched the Ponderossa clip when he said that he was affraid to talk to Crystal because he didin't know how his friends would react letst me know he's a total wimp.

I hope if they have another gay person on the show, that he or she will be a stronger person. One who doesn't care so much about other peoples' feelings, and doesn't make us look like, well, him.

Overall it was a great finale. Thanks to Sugar for shaking things up and practically handing Bob the $1 million, and to Randy and Corrine for the drama, and to Ken for being such an ass. I still wish Survivor would go back to its 2 finalist format. Three is just a crowd.

Now I have to get myself looking forward to the next season, Survivor Whatchamacallit.

Also, trust me Marcus feels exactly this same way too -- that being more educated and more articulate makes him a better person -- he just doesn't say it openly like Ace does.
Whereas I am clearly the better person because I'm the heir to the Austrian throne. Although, in all fairness, that barely trumps honors at Florida (in three years! She's a regular academic Secretariat!).

I've mentioned before that this is the first season I've watched, so I have a sort of meta question: what is the purpose of the jury questioning at the end? Some questions were simply an exercise in ax-grinding. Others were idiotic and cringe-inducing (Charlie). Some of the jurors chose to forgo questioning altogether and simply pontificated. It seemed to me that no one was even close to changing their mind (although at one point I thought Bob was shrewd in stroking their astounding conceit). Is it always an exercise in futility, or have past seasons played out differently?

It is not. In the even you don't have a jury that's so full of bitter assholes or when you have a jury who genuinely doesn't know who they're voting for going in the questions take on new meaning.

The jury questioning is nothing more than a platform to hurl insults (often hilariously) by bitter rejected players to those who are potentially about to take home some loot. A parting shot, if you will. It usually serves very little purpose, but is MY FAVORITE part of Survivor. So much so that despite the fact that I no longer watch this tired program, I always tune into the finale just to see if there are any fireworks. Last night I was flipping back and forth between Survivor and the Cowboys/Giants game to watch the hilarity. My favorite was from the awesome season 1 of Survivor when Wisconsin truck driver Susan Hawk went off on Richard and especially, Kelley. This quote still stands the test of time:

But if I would ever pass you along in life and you are laying there dying of thirst, I would not give you a drink of water. I would let the vultures take you and do whatever they want with you with no ill regrets.

:D That's what I call "emotionally entangled" in a game. You can read all of Susan's classic speech here from the summer of 2000:
