I have NO Solid Proof to back up what I'm about to say. My pictures of, and emails from, Andreus were all lost in a computer crash. The system I'm on now is not the one I had then, and even at that I'm on my second hard drive with this one!

As for the PMs, I deleted those, quite some time ago, to make room.

The only things about that time that I'm SURE of is that Corny, Kahil, MidnightPrism, GL, FrankFrank, Justaguy, and Myself, are, indeed, Real. And, I'm leaning Heavily toward believing all the rest of you are, too.

SO ... let me share my take on some of the doubts that have been expressed ...

Demitri: His posting style did come from Andreus who was teaching him English, and had introduced him to JUB. Though the format was the same, I never thought they ever sounded like each other. And, as I recall, Mitri was here on a Student Visa (at B.U. I think). Though his fall down the stairs may have effected his behavioral patterns, it didn't necessarily impact his intellect. Besides, "Papa" was a very successful, international, business man with some very powerful contacts.

"Papa" was also a very opinionated, stubborn, insufferable tyrant that believed that homosexuality was an Evil, Depraved, CHOICE! End of discussion!! Yes, I'm sure he knew Andreus was Gay (who also likely threw that in his face at every chance he 'safely' got), and Mitri knew darned well NOT to bring it up! Thus, the question about Mitri saying "Papa" didn't know about his Gay sons may well have been an honest assessment from His point of view. I'm sure Andreus 'protected' his brother however he could.

Andreus was a linguist, never a 'bodyguard'. He was in Iraq carrying out an assignment he'd wrangled as a free-lance correspondent. He caught that bullet by being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Though he preferred to stay as Independent from his dad as he could, I also recall a trip he took on behalf of his dad's business interests. Again, as a trusted linguist/interpreter. I'm betting that gig cost The Company a good chunk!

Though he was adamant about not asking "Papa" for money, he wouldn't hesitate to be reimbursed for 'honest' employment. However, he didn't care to have much contact with The Company, either. Thus, there were times he would run low on cash. And, those were the times he'd use his body to raise what he needed to get by. He was never 'proud' of that, and it was only a means to an end.

Andreus was also quite opinionated, stubborn, and, at times, insufferable. Something he no doubt got from his dad! Of course, he'd Never admit that!

I'm sure I'm missing some points, but none of it every struck me as being inconsistent. IF Dreu was a 'puppet', his 'puppeteer' was a Brilliant Genius! Even his posting frequency would alter whenever he was 'out of country'!

YES! I LIKED the Guy, "Real" or not! I considered myself fortunate to get to know him as well as I did, and I do miss him! I'd also like to know if it was all a ruse. Because, if it was, WOW!, Thank You for the Ride!

All the more reasons to ... no matter what ...

I hope that everyone has recovered from this period.

I felt so bad for a number people during this period of time. It was too bad that so many posters had their faith in the fellow posters so damaged. It became a relentless game setting the trap for this guy...but at the end of the day...got the fucker.

I remember that time, and the fall out. I got caught by the faker as well & in the aftermath of what I called a "witch hunt" another poster I spoke to much more often was outted as a fake.

There have been a lot of fakes on here in the years I've been around and he fall out is usually quite damaging to those left behind.

As to whether Drue was fake I have no opinion. Frankly I avoided him as much as possible.

There are not many posters to this Thread who were actually around during the period of this saga. In those days JUB members tended to get very much more involved on a personal basis than now. The whole affair was not a happy time for JUB and I still have a considerable reservation of the intentions of some of those involved including why this very old subject should have been 'innocently' raised again? I think it would be better to let the subject be buried as it was in the JUB arcihives rather speculating on who said what many years ago!

If memory serves me right, Andreus and I joined JUB close to the same time. I may have had a couple of PM contacts with him, however nothing of any great importance. I only knew him through threads that I followed and enjoyed some of his reactions and loathed some as well. When he posted photos of himself, I was impressed by his physical presence and kept them. I still have them.

As for his authenticity, I had no reason not to believe that he was who he said he was. Through his postings that I recall he did have an intense intellect and seemingly a great knowledge of many subjects. Whether his knowledge came from experience or from literature, I have no idea. I was impressed nonetheless and did not question his ability to hold an interesting debate.

This entire thread has been extremely intriguing as well. Corny has a point that is interesting. On one hand we have the doubting Thomas' who fine all sorts of conspiracy and deceit -- Then there are the followers who build an almost miraculous, but flawed being.

Whatever Andreus was or is, whether in the Great Beyond or still on this plane, he has certainly fulfilled his destiny in creating an entity that is living on through those of us on JUB. Where ever he is, I'm sure he is laughing his head off, watching the turmoil that he has caused. For me, I will just say, Rest In Peace, Andreus....it was fun and as Chaz so aptly put, "Thank you for the Ride!"

I agree, Star-warrior. Fakers can do the most extreme damage. I got burnt very badly by a man we'll call "Outsider".

Outsider posted pictures of a good-looking young man with a tortured soul. I sensed that this man may have suicidal tendencies, and wanted to help him before anything tragic happened. Indeed, during private email communication I'd had with him, he sent me pictures of "himself" slashing his wrists.

All of this made it seem even more tragic that no one believed him. "How cruel these guys are", I thought."Here is a man whose life in danger, and they're adding insult to injury by denying him the basic dignity of an identity". I saw their attitude as cruelty to point of bullying.

Things got really really ugly. I have never seen so much drama on JUB before or since, and I'm afraid that I let my concern for him color my own judgment. We all exchanged some very harsh words. Mr. Outsider created a tsunami. One Moderator quit over it, if I recall correctly.

You can imagine my abject humiliation when someone proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the pics were fake. I wasn't the only victim by far. JUB as a whole developed a fissure in it that created a shock wave that reached back for years.

So I agree with you--fakers do the absolute worst damage.

I don't know if Andreus was a fake, but if he was, consider this: how much controversy has he caused here and now, in this very thread? The thread's gone on for seven or eight pages now.

Before today, I felt sure that Outsider made his grand entrance and ignoble exit in 2008, but today Joswanprince tried to send me a PM--and couldn't--because my mailbox had reached its full capacity.

So I went through some of my old PMs to see which ones I wanted to delete, and sure enough, there they stood: possibly 25 PMs from "Outsider". Contrary to my memory, however, I saw that they had dates stamped on them from 2010--not 2008. Presumably, you had already enrolled by then, Telstra.

I should know that person then but i have no idea who he was .

I would think his existence should be quite easy to prove if someone was of a mind to (far easier than to disprove), given that we know his name, his occupation in Boston, that he was involved with charities around Boston, that he died in Athens late 2007 (or thereabouts)and was buried in Crete (I think), his brother's name, that his brother went to university in Boston etc etc. I mean, it's not as though we don't know every intimate detail about his life anyway. I'm almost tempted to offer a reward just to clear the matter up. Or perhaps it's better to just let the matter rest and have us each believe whatever we believe.
That's my thought for the day.

Well my two cents... I didn't know this guy, and I have only a passing familiarity with his "legacy" from glancing through bits of this thread, and what people have said about him here and there in Hot Topics... he sounds like his impact here was a bit larger than life, and people all seem to unanimously describe him as both intelligent and very attractive.

To me, just as a passing outsider, that sounds like a too good to be true proposition. And you know what happens with most too good to be true situations... they usually are.

I have absolutely no vested interest for or against anyone's idea or memory of the guy, like I said just my 2 cents. I think when someone gets deeply invested in a message board community, puts a huge and colorful persona into it, attracts a lot of attention, and then passes away... sadly a great number of those stories, possibly the great majority, are fake.

Another way of checking, that I've just thought of, would be to do an internet search for his father. He was reputed to be a wealthy, influential businessman, was he not? Surely if there is no mention of him on the internet anywhere then that must say something, I would think???

I looked under the Social Security Death Index. No Andreus Thanos has ever passed away on American soil with that name. Once again, similar names exist--Andrew Thanos, in particular--but the ages or locations don't watch.

I think if I have it right, Andreus died in Greece, so that would account for this. But I can't find fault in your other searces.

^ A couple of individuals exist under the name Demetrios Thanos, but, once again, either the ages and/or the locations don't match. One Demetrios is 50, I think, and the other one's 80. The Demetrios who's 50 years old lives in Somerset, MA. The location matches (I think Somerset sits near Boston) but he's much too old to be Mitri.

Oh, and Mitri is reportedly currently in jail in Greece for arson. But if you say no one of those names have ever lived in Boston, then thats another matter, I presume.

^For individuals who have died, one can search the Social Security Death Index. I would assess that index as "accurate", but not "extremely accurate". If a person died and had never gotten a Social Security Card, he will not necessarily appear in the index, nor will a person who has died in the last six months.

For individuals who still live, several databases exist. My favorite one is Peoplefinders dot com. I'd assess it as "very accurate", but not "extremely accurate". Still, I have found many people in that database that I haven't seen in over 25 years. In all of the years I have consulted it, I have only come up a blank just once (well, twice, if you include this dubious example).

I deem NexusLexus the single most accurate database for the living. Professional private detectives use that database first; oftentimes, they can find a missing person within 15 minutes. However, you must pay to use it, and I don't want to pay good money to find a mirage.

Either Andreus gave us all a fake name, lived as an illegal immigrant, or he didn't exist. I see no other alternative.

If I'm not mistaken did you guys not say his brother was here as a college student? He would have had to have had a visa for that (presuming he was a Greek national), so it's hard to imagine that both of them would have been totally off the paper trail.

Right. I pointed it out only because it makes the case that they were here illegally/off the record the least likely of the three possibilities. In fact I think it can only be one of the other two now... they both used pseudonyms, or they were constructs.

Read the thread from the start. I think there is little doubt his real name was supposed to be Andreus Thanos, as Boston Pirate said he knew him in real life.
