Re: Favorite Songs From Hard Candy?

Now that i think about it...

Shoo Bee Doo is the worst Madonna song EVER.

Oh yeah....that is a Horrible song......but its more bearable than Jimmy Jimmy, i got turned off of JJ when she said her father told her "he needs a good lickin'"...ok....

But Dance 2night is the best song On Hard Candy imo.....it would be a Big hit if released as a single....

If you hate this album, you're too old!

Madonna hasn't impressed me since her Erotica/Sex book/Girlie Show glory days. If you really want to hear Madonna take an interesting shot at R&B, check out Bedtime Stories. It's truly Madonna at her best. This new album is just a desperate attempt for a 50 year old to stay young and revelant.

yeah, bedtime stories is an Amazing Album, one of my favorites by her infact. That was a very R&B album, Hard Candy is more of an attempt at Hip-Hop...Hard Candy will never ever ever compare in the least way to Bedtime Stories

>>>Don't pretend you're not hungry, I've seen it before.

Oh, I'm plenty hungry. But this Hard Candy is killing my appetite. Bleah. :(

Madonna's album is expected to have a huge sales drop this week...early projections only have her pulling in 85-90k (down from her nearly 300k this past week). Man, the music industry really is in the pits!

Re: Madonna's new CD "Hard Candy!" [merged]

It's a busy week at the top of the The Billboard 200, with Madonna's "Hard Candy" leading the action at No. 1. It is the artist's seventh chart-topper, the second-most among all female artists -- only Barbra Streisand, with eight, has more. The Warner Bros. set moved 280,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. After racing 68-3 last month, the diva's single "4 Minutes" featuring Justin Timberlake gave Madonna her 37th top 10 hit -- the most of any artist in the rock era. Until now, she and Elvis Presley were tied with 36 apiece.

As a consequence, Mariah Carey's "E=MC2" (Island Def Jam) is dethroned to No. 2 after two weeks on top; the album moved 95,000 units, a 48% sales drop-off. Leona Lewis' "Spirit" (Syco/J) slips 2-3 with 84,000 (-12%).

Re: Madonna's new CD "Hard Candy!" [merged]

280,000 is massive for someone who has been around since 1982!

I Dont Think Barbra Streisand Can Pull numbers like that anymore

The music industry has only themselves to blame for their current predicament.

Back in the mid to late 90s, it cost about $3 to make a cassette (complete with artwork and case). It took about 25 cents to make a CD. But CDs cost about $5 more than a cassette at the store. Why? Profit. They knew people would pay more for it, so they charged more for it. Over the next several years, they nudged the list price of new CDs up to $19. Most of that just went into the label's pocket. Now, with the advent of mp3 players, CDs aren't as in high demand anymore. But the prices aren't exactly plummeting at the shops.

In addition, labels over the past twenty years have shifted the way they do business. Before, albums would be released as a campaign revolved around it to push it. As such, albums tended to enter the charts somewhere in the middle, and begin to climb. Now, they start the campaign long before the album is available. Most of the energy and resources go into first week sales. After the first week, most of the budget and attention go to the "next big thing", and sales plummet. This was fine back in the 1990s, when tons of people would bounce in their seats waiting for the new N'Sync album to come out. But now, these things get leaked online immediately. They not only can hear the song anytime they want, they can even watch the video (on youtube, or the label's website) anytime they want. There's no longer any motivating reason to rush out and grab the CD. And as such, sales are dying.

So true, so true. Great insight as always, Lex!

Re: "Erotica" Madonna Review so many years later

It was such a great album but was overlooked because of all the SEX book scandals instead of the great tracks.

Wicked album and book and then the girlie show world tour that followed.

Re: "Erotica" Madonna Review so many years later

Love this cd!!! I was in college when it came out. "Thief of hearts" and "words" are still some of my fav songs. But the whole cd is great. I use to dance my 19 year old ass off to "Deeper and deeper' at the gay bars. Good times.

Re: "Erotica" Madonna Review so many years later

The problem with Madonna is Madonna. She makes immensely realized CDs but her work suffers because of her persona.

Be that as it may, Madonna would not have lasted this long and for years to come seriously if she didnt consistenly make amazing music.

Re: Madonna announces "Sticky & Sweet Tour‏"

I have To Go to This
