This “Sparkle” Remake Is Looking Better And Better: Meet Jordin Sparks’ On Camera Sisters

Jordin Sparks was all a twitter today about her “Sparkle Sisters” Tika Sumpter and British actress Carmen Ejogo. These two aren’t the only additions to the cast of the “Sparkle” Remake announced this week…

Cee-Lo Green has joined the cast along with Carmen Ejogo, Tika Sumpter and Omari Hardwick.

Additionally, RB artist R. Kelly has signed on to write original music for the soundtrack.

Pic is a remake of the 1976 film that centered on the three Williams sisters, who began singing in their church choir in Harlem in the late 1950s and went on to become a successful girl group, though their sudden rise took a toll on their personal lives. Remake takes place in 1968 Detroit during the rise of Motown.

“American Idol” winner Jordin Sparks stars as the title character, a music prodigy who struggles to become a star as she overcomes issues that are tearing her family apart.

Ejogo and Sumpter will play Sparks’ siblings, Sister and Dolores, respectively, while Whitney Houston plays the trio’s mother. Green will play a singer who serves as the girls’ opening act.

Pic also stars Derek Luke as Stix, an aspiring Motown manager who discovers the sisters and eventually falls for Sparkle. Hardwick will play his cousin, Levi, who falls for Ejogo’s character but turns to a life of crime after she’s stolen from him by Detroit comic Satin Struthers, who will be played by Mike Epps.

On another note...

Whitney will be working with producer Mervyn Warren for a song on the Sparkle soundtrack!! He's the mastermind who produced "The Preacher's Wife" soundtrack with Whitney and did most of the songs on it. He's such a pro and they make magic together! He brings out the best in Whitney (he also produced the best tracks off "One Wish" the holiday album )

Family confirms: Whitney Houston coming to Teen Summit

SHELBY — The secret is out — Whitney Houston is scheduled to attend this year’s Teen Summit.

Whitney’s sister-in-law and vice president for WhitNip Inc., Pat Houston, confirmed Tuesday that Whitney will be in Shelby this year.

“She has always wanted to come, but in the past her schedule has prevented her from coming,” Pat Houston said by phone from Detroit, where Whitney Houston is in pre-production for her upcoming movie, “Sparkle.”

“Shooting starts next week,” Pat Houston said. “We are going to take a break and come to Shel-by. We are 100 percent sure she is coming.”

Although Whitney Houston plans to attend the summit, Pat Houston doesn’t want people to miss the point.

“Mentoring is in a state of emergency,” Pat Houston explained in an email. “Our communities across the nation are looking for solutions to make a change. We are that solution. I need you to help me to help others help themselves. We are just doing what we do best, and that’s serving you.”

Other celebrities who will per-form and speak to youth at this year’s summit are Quinton Aaron from “The Blind Side,” gospel artist Kim Burrell, the Rev. Yolanda E. Thompson, au-thor/inspirational speaker Gerard Henry, Dr. Shirley Shields, DeVon Franklin and others.

As the Teen Summit celebrates its fifth year, the anniversary represents a new chapter for Pat Houston.

“For the past four years, we have been raising awareness,” Pat Houston said. “Now we are going into phase two — raising money for the academy.”

The academy will be a place where youth from all over the country can come and receive support to “rebuild, restore and repair” and face life’s challenges, Pat Houston said.

The milestone is one of the reasons Whitney Houston wanted to attend this year. The other reason is the new line of candles Pat Houston is launching to help raise funds for the acad-emy — “Marion P.: Fragrances from the Holy Land.”

“The candles are handmade in California, but will be shipped from Shelby. We’re hoping to manufacture in Shelby someday,” Pat Houston said.

Whitney Houston’s endorsement is printed in gold letters on the boxes for the fragrant can-dles.

“Marion is my name, and Whitney is the only one who calls me Marion P.,” Pat Houston said. “The candles are 100 percent soy and when you burn the candle, it turns into oil that you can dip your hands into and nourish the skin.”

The film (produced and distributed by Sony Pictures) is a remake of a 1976 film (by the same name) that starred Philip Michael Thomas, Irene Cara and Lonette McKee and was directed by Sam O'Steen. Both films have been rumored to be loosely based on the musical group, 'The Supremes'.

The star-studded cast of 'Sparkle' includes Whitney Houston and is already being labeled her "come-back" film. She stated Houston deserves the title considering she's been there from the beginning in 2001 when Houston obtained Sparkle production rights. RnB singer Aaliyah's death in a 2001 plane crash derailed production which would have began in 2002.
