Re: Whitney Houston's Comeback Appearance '09

l'll believe it when l see it. If l got a dime for everytime l read or hear the statment "whitney Houston comeback" well. l'd be.... They said this about her last year after Clive Davis announced, she had a new CD coming out, or the year 2007 after she made an appearance and sang in the Michael Jackson tribute gala. there are far too many young talents now who have the chops to sing like her, so comeback..l just don't see it happening. Perhaps, more like "has been".

Re: Whitney Houston's Comeback Appearance '09

Er, I disagree enormously (with Jason). Whitney is famous for having been such an amazing singer. Whitney "The Voice" Houston. Britney has always been a tramp. Even though Whitney has been a wreck in the past, her madness was not as bizarre and ALL in the public eye and the media as Britney's madness was, so Whitney does not have that stigma attached to her like Britney does.

Re: Whitney Houston's Comeback Appearance '09

Whitney SURELY has stigma attached. Remember for awhile people were afraid to book her cuz she wouldn't show up, or she'd show up and act "silly" playing an imaginary piano and mumbling to herself?
Sounds like somebody's been watching E! True Hollywood Story.

Re: Whitney Houston's Comeback Appearance '09

With what? I'm not saying Whitney has never been talented, but she doesn't work anymore. She's called a "singer" but when is the last time she sang?
Well unless you and Jasun are the same user, I really wasn't talking about disagreeing with you. But, she's made her career off of singing, so she is a singer. She's hasn't sung in a few years, but that doesn't make her life's work non-existent.

Bolded=operative word. Past tense. She didn't take care of her voice, she's smoked her brilliant soprano into a throaty tenor.
Did she? Do you have a link showing showcasing the throaty tenor? I haven't heard it.

She has the stigma, but it isn't so bad, and not nearly as severe as Britney's which is what I was saying.

Re: Whitney Houston's Comeback Appearance '09

No, she's made a career of singing; her life's work doesn't become irrelevant just because she hasn't sung in a years. Her last studio album was her holiday albumin '03. It's only been a little more than five years. I get what you're saying, but it's too soon to say she's no longer a singer. Concerning her voice, it's reasonable to say her voice has deteriorated from smoking, I'm not arguing that and I wouldn't be surprised if it has, but I'd like to hear her sing first before I say she can no longer sing a lick.

Re: Whitney Houston's Comeback Appearance '09

It about time! My Baby Whitney is back!!!!!

Re: Whitney Houston's Comeback Appearance '09

How bout a compromise. Since you admit her last album was five years ago, we'll say she's currently refraining from performing the action that is implied by the designation "singer." Damn, I wish I had a job where I could stay out for five years.
That's good enough for me.

I didn't say she can't sing, I said her voice dropped, she's singing in a lower range than she used to. She doesn't use her head voice anymore, anything beyond (approx.) the 3rd octave she goes into falsetto.
Yes, her voice surely isn't nearly as powerful as it used to be, but when she sings (or more appropriately, sung, her latest showcase of vocals five years ago) she still sounds great.

Re: Whitney Houston's Comeback Appearance '09

And to be honest... she doesn't look that great in those pictures. she looks kinda foggy, over-Botoxed and (sorry) a little high.

But the "fans" don't like to hear it and I'm sure I'll get called a "hater" for not rejoicing that Whitney is "back."
LOL. No one had even mentioned haters, but since you've mentioned it, your posts do seemed to be filled with bitterness towards her, and it looks like you have a white hot personal grudge against her. As a matter of fact, yeah, you're just plain old hating, and you know it too, which is why you bothered to even mention being a hater. You see her in good shape and looking MUCH better, so like a reflex you activate the negativity machine. The only thing she did was walk onstage looking and wearing a nice dress, and you completely exaggerate that into "everyone is going ape shit over her" and treating it like a "comeback", just so that you'll have even more to complain about, on top of your trashing her for her past, which is OVER and DONE. Take the haters shades off and see that no one is going ape shit or acting or treating this that way, except you.

Btw those two people you mentioned are not legends, hence why they probably wouldn't elicit a notable response from a surprise appearance like Whitney Houston would. When Michael Jackson showed up at the VMAs that year, people went ape shit because he is a legend. When Madonna appeared at the VMAs in 2003, people went ape shit because she is a legend. You want to pretend that an appearance by some two artists are going to elicit the same reaction by someone like Whitney Houston, well they're not because they're not in her league.

You also want to raise Whitney's madwomen years to or pass the severity of Britney's, and lmao, it's nowhere near. And Whitney looks very cleaned up right now, so unless anyone has some proof that she is still on drugs, your saying so is nonsense. Stop living in her past. She's might have been to rehab and got cleaned up for all we know, and she certainly looks like she has.

LOL...agree, agree, agree.

And what is she "coming back" at? Well for starters, she's coming back to being normal while sober after fighting a long drug battle and overcoming her addiction. I'd say that's a pretty damn good reason for people to go ape shit over. Just to see her back on stage in a nice dress with some noticeable weight gain and finally not LOOKING like a druggie, will definitely bring excitement.

Same thing happened with Britney when she finally got her act together and made her "come back". If people can get excited for that non-singing, coochie flashing media whore to be back on the right path and not acting crazy, then we surely have a good reason to be excited for Whitney just looking sane and healthy again. This "comeback appearance" is a reassurance to the public that Whitney is on her way back to us, in good standing, and "the voice" is sure to follow. ..|

Re: Whitney Houston's Comeback Appearance '09

I can't wrap my brain around the concept of being excited about and supporting someone who's addicted to drugs. It's [strike]almost[/strike] sadistic.
You're twisting it all around, as you tend to do, just to give off this air of false superiority. People who support Whitney aren't supporting her drug addiction, they're supporting her recovery. People who support Whitney aren't supporting her mistakes and her failings, they're supporting her attempt at overcoming them. It's called having compassion for someone who clearly had a God given gift and had lost her way, but having the audacity to say, "I'm not going out like this!" and making steps towards rebuilding her life -- both professionally, and more important, personally.

All of this pious, judgmental bullshit about supporting someone who's addicted to drugs... give me a fuckin' break. Drug usesage and addiction runs rampant in the entertainment industry. Your current favorite celebrity of the moment, whoever they may be, probably smoked three joints or swallowed six shots of vodka before their last public appearance. You just don't know it because they haven't been sold out -- yet.

Re: Whitney Houston's Comeback Appearance '09

Marleyisalegend, for someone who thinks she is a crackhead, you sure do spend a lot of time and energy in this thread, talking about her. 13 posts to be exact. But I'm not going to argue with you, so have a great day/

Re: Whitney Houston's Comeback Appearance '09

Sorry, some of us have more to say than "Ohhh, pretty dress."

Haha, I was just about to post that.

I'm a fan. Always be one. I just hope she gets her act together and gets out of rehab successfully. Hate to see a talent like her waste away.

Yeah, yeah. Same goes for Amy.

Re: Whitney Houston's Comeback Appearance '09

Just like Britney, she's famous for being a classless, drug-addicted whore who married someone famous (in Britney's case, he was famous for marrying Britney.. like.. irony), did lots of drugs, had children as accessories (but didn't love them, like them or care for them and probably put them at extreme risk), did it all while making sure they did it on Perez Hilton's site looking tragic. Gay guys fell all over themselves to give them the "DIVA" label and the cash registers kept ringing.

Correction: She was famous BEFORE any of the negative shit happened.
You don't know what all is true and its rather uncalled for to assume anything about her children. You can bash her all day long, but thats definitely cold and uncalled for. It's sick.

Re: Whitney Houston's Comeback Appearance '09

That's the past. NOW she's famous for being famous. Doesn't perform much, doesn't do much of anything except be famous.

And I stand by my statement that some gay men are OBSESSED with celebrity. If we spent as much time on politics as we spend on Zac Efron and Britney, Prop 8 probably wouldn't have passed.

I agree a little with that. But talking about her kids in such a manner is not cool. And anyone who would, well, I won't comment.

Re: Whitney Houston's Comeback Appearance '09

Whitney is NOW famous not for singing but being a person who bragged that she did coke because she made "way too much money to be on crack." She's famous for being a human train wreck, thanks to her reality show showing her being a human train wreck

Mad tv: Whitney Houston MTV Icon

"Skin that and make me a coat! Cause I like that. I like that. Skin it and make me a coat, Bobby!" ;)

Oh taveres, I love you. LOL. So agree, and couldn't agree more...|

And famous for being famous? We're talking about WHITNEY HOUSTON here, not Paris Hilton. Whitney actually HAS a valid career, which has spanned 25+ years. She HAS a recording contract. She HAS sold more records than her record label probably knows what to do with. She IS the most awarded female artist in history. She HAS had the FIRST album by a female artist to debut at #1. She IS the most covered artist on American Idol. The list of records and accomplishments can go on and on. She's a living legend, like or not. I'd hardly say she's "famous for being famous".

Everybody is in D.C.!

On Saturday night in Washington, Whitney Houston presented an award at the BET Honors.

STUNNING, right?

Her separation from Bobby Brown has done wonders!

We're absolutely giddy about her comeback album.

We hope it's coming out sooner rather than later!

Re: Whitney Houston's Comeback Appearance '09

She IS the most awarded female artist in history.

False. Mariah Carey, actually, is.

According to the RIAA, Mariah Carey is the leading female artist in the United States with 134 certifications (Gold, Platinum & Diamond) based on a combination of sales from singles, albums and videos.

The female artist Top 10 is made up as follows:

1. Mariah Carey - 134 Certifications
2. Barbra Streisand- 133 Certifications
3. Madonna- 130 Certifications
4. Whitney Houston- 94 Certifications
5. Janet Jackson- 74 Certifications
6. Celine Dion- 72 Certifications
7. Shania Twain- 67 Certifications
8. Britney Spears- 63 Certifications
9. Beyonce- 41 Certifications
10. Christina Aguilera- 40 Certifications

And according to SonyMusic.com, also on award shows ;)

She IS the most covered artist on American Idol.

And again, according to Simon Cowell, Mariah is.
