Concerning Shane's retirement, it's a little more complicated than just feeling burned out, although that may have had something to so with it. It turns out that late last spring, Shane got extremely ill and wound up in the emergency room with what turned out to be a severe case of colitis that doctors traced to a virus he picked up while visiting Mexico. After an extended hospital stay during which he dropped nearly 25 pounds, he slowly recovered over the summer. He returned to Broke Straight Boys to complete some scenes he had contracted (the first few he shot before getting sick.) If you notice in some of the Broke Straight Boys shoots he looks very thin and sickly, but his demeanor improves towards the end of the shoots as he gains back some of the weight he lost.

The illness made him reevaluate his life and what he wanted to do with it (apparently he still has occasional pain more than a year later which makes me think the colitis may be chronic but that's just a guess) and he quietly retired following his obligations with Broke Straight Boys He also turned 25 (apparently his self-imposed porn expiration date) and broke up with his boyfriend, which seems to have devastated him (though they still care about each other and are friends.)

He's a smart cookie, I will say that, and is a photographer by nature and extensively studies and works with eastern philosophy. He seems like a really cool guy (as well as being insanely beautiful) and I hope he goes far in life. Although it's awful that he got so sick it's also refreshing to see a porn star who worked so diligently and then left the industry with no drama or twitter meltdowns.
