give opins but not like it as many plot lands same when

but it ya bag knoce up yaself good

I loved The Tudors. It really brought home just how 'dangerous' it was being part of Henry VIII's inner circle. Most of them ended up executed. Extraordinary how he could be so close to say someone like Thomas Cromwell, and then the next minute say 'off with his head'.
Would have loved to have seen the show go on to Elizabeth the 1st, whose reign was just as interesting.

I, too was bothered by the historical inaccuracies in the beginning. Not only do they compress characters (like Henry's sisters) into one, they also compress time frames so that the King's sister marries Charles Brandon at the same time Henry gets the hots for Anne Boleyn. The two things actually happened 20 years apart.

Since, by their own admission, the producers of the series never intended it to last as long as it did, I wonder if the choices were designed to tell as much story as possible in the time (they thought) they had.

I don't know, but I agree with aagold in that the inaccuracies become less apparent as the series progresses and, by that point, I had decided to just ignore them and enjoy myself. And enjoy myself I did!

Strong performances, beautiful photography and interesting enough to give even my (historically challenged) friends at least a rudimentary understanding of the Tudor era.

I thought it was damned entertaining.

Who was your favorite character? Mine was Anne Boleyn, she was brave, fearless, bold, and she hit the ground running when she arrived from France, I admired her tactics, and her diligence.

I really liked Natalie Dormer's Anne but I think my favorite character turned out to be Catherine of Aragon. It may be just because I was in love with Maria Doyle Kennedy's performance but I found I really missed her after she was gone.

I also found myself strangely sympathetic to Sarah Bolger's Princess Mary (and I am not generally sympathetic to Mary as a historical character) and I liked the way they made her a multi-dimensional character and showed the difficulties, disappointments and sadness that conspired to create the bitter, lonely woman who allowed such monstrosities to be perpetuated in her name. To my mind, it's the only cinematic portrayal that takes the time to show a tender side to Mary (but I'm happy to be proven wrong if there are others.) Traditionally we get the cold Mary (Jane Lapotaire in LADY JANE) or the full out paranoid, crazy Mary (Kathy Burke's wild performance in ELIZABETH) So it was a nice change (and Sarah Bolger is exceedingly sweet and pretty, in my opinion, which helped)

Speaking of the movie ELIZABETH...yikes! The historical inaccuracies in THAT make this look like an encyclopedia. Cate Blanchett's stunning performance aside, I think that one is worthless junk as far as history is concerned.

if you want a good depiction of Tudor England, get the 2 Masterpiece Theatres from the 70s...The Six Wives of Henry VIII and Elizabeth R- both very good!!!

Agreed! Though I also love Helen Mirren's Elizabeth (and being an old movie lover I have a soft spot for Bette Davis and Errol Flynn but don't judge me I can't help it!!!)
