What is a good age to start taking kids to the theatre?

^I agree

But I think if the kid is sensible and willing to sit through things at a younger age definitely encourage it, I kinda wish I went to the theatre as a kid

Me too, but theatre prices can be quite prohibitive. I didn't go to the theatre until I could pay my own way.

I'd say six or seven also, and there are a lot of the Disney stage productions are targeted at young children. Also, things like Mary Poppins and Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat.

Just don't mistake Avenue Q for a kids' production.

:)

Thanks everyone. I was thinking around 7 or 8.

I have had season box seats for years now. With all of my discounts I can add an extra ticket for only $21, which I think is a great price considering where the ticket is for.

Yeah I don't think that would go over well.

I think it depends on the kid. My mom took my brother and I to see The Nutcracker a few times, starting when I was about 5. I wasn't terribly impressed, but my brother (a year younger) sat in awe for the entire thing.

six is the earliest I would do.

Just make sure it isn't a musical theatre production. Don't want to get'em hooked when they're young or did you not see Broadway Bro down?

The person I go with has been bringing her son along with us off and on since he was three. He is really well behaved though and really gets into it. I was thinking I may start offering to take my middle nephew (7) in a few months if I can. He is not nearly as well behaved though and I don’t know if he would get in to a show or not.

I didn't know what you were refering to so I looked it up. Sorry, but I can't handle South Park.

I remember being bored to death by stuff my parents took me too when I was a kid.

Now I realised that I was squirming through performances by the great concert artists of the 20th century. I didn't know then.

It depends on what is on offer. I have cousins who are 2 & 4 who went for the first time a few months ago and they both loved it.

A few years back I saw The Rocky Horror Show. It was a Sunday matinee and there were a lot of families there. It was such an inappropriate play for children to watch, especially when Frank-n-furter came out riding a giant penis singing "Don't Dream It, Be It". I really don't know what those parents were thinking.
