  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

what is your opinion of non-Christians who wear rosaries? people who wear band shirts that dont listen to that band?

whats your opinion of non-Christians who wear rosaries for fashion?
or people who wear band shirts but dont listen to that band?

The same opinion I have of people who wear "tribal" tattoos, or anyone who buys a tattoo instead of earning it, for that matter.

How would I know they're not Christian?

It's all in the subtle way they cock their Kippah.

Actually, is it ever acceptable for anyone other than nuns and such to wear a rosary?

I wear a crucifix that my mother bought me before she died.
I'm not a diehard catholic and my beliefs are all over the place but it means a lot to mean.

Thanks mommy :)

I have a "thing" for old religious sculpture...I have an unofficial collection of it. The first religious thing I bought was a rather large pewter cross dated 1916 that was inscribed by a nun...I love it. I have since collected some old Russian religious icons and lots more stuff too numerous to mention. What does it all mean? Hell if I know.

Well, if you decide to wear it all as fashion, you're sure to become a self-manufactured hunchback, and that would be disrespectful to that Notre-Dame guy.

Both Muslims and Budhists use rosaries. Alternatively, many Christian denominations do no use such paraphrenalia.

As for what you meant, I myself am loathe to wear anything I don't believe in or any uniform I'm not entitled to unless it's convenient. I am completely without moral fibre, after all.

If you wear dog tags do you also have a micro chip in your ear in case you get lost?

just asking.

Do they wear them for fashion?

I'm thinking not, but I'd really like to know.

I wear all kinds of stuff that doesn't display my true allegiances.

I guess I'm not much into gang affiliation (but I love my puffy coats).

I don't know what you mean by, or what a "puffy coat" is, but I doubt that it could be as obvious, or as recognizable, as a rosary.

Do you ever wear your "puffy coat" upside down? :)

Posers exist?

News to me. News, I tell you. Someone stop the presses, I just got a scoop.

It was my understanding that the rosary is not to be worn, even by priests and nuns. And if it is worn, that it is to be worn so that it can't be seen.

I guess how I'd feel about people doing so would depend on why exactly they were. But probably I'd not give enough attention to it.

That's what I've always thought, too. But I have seen little nun figurines sporting little rosaries. I really don't know. . .

Not knowing for sure, I'm left to assume that wearing a rosary as an accessory, or costume piece, is no different than wearing a confederate flag - the person is ignorant as to the actual purpose/meaning of his/her adornments and of how offensive he/she may be seen or, more likely, the wearer has decided to appear antisocial and unapproachable.

And, yeah, probably a rather boring uninteresting person either way . . . :)

For some reason, I'm unable to edit posts on this site. Some shit about a "security token"?? Happens every time. . . oh well . . .
