What was the last thing you did that you are proud of but doesn't mean anything to most other people?

I bet most people here or anywhere else don't know and don't care what this is. But I am damn proud of myself.

What was the last thing you did that you struggled with and is really proud of yourself after you did it but holds little value to most other people?

I was renewing a 50 gallons gas water heater. The process involves cleaning the inside of all rust and sediments, replacing the valves, and replacing the anode rod.

Some times the threads are so corroded they fused together. Like this one. I was fighting it for a while.

Part of what I do for my rentals is instead of spending $700-1200 on a new water heater, I buy 5 year old water heaters for about $100 and do this. Saves me a ton of money and after replacing all the parts like valves and heating elements, they will perform like brand new units.

Water is corrosive by nature. The job of the anode rod is to act as a sacrificial lamb to prolong the life of the tank. In theory, as long as there is an anode rod, the corrosive parts of the water will attack the anode rod and leave the tank alone.

I refrain from using "proud or pride" as a way to describe my feelings about any accomplishments in my life. I am satisfied with getting a business up and running, even a lawn care business is not that easy, also learning on my own when it comes to math, history or science. If you wait for a pat on the back I am fearful that you will be sorely disappointed. Most people are wrapped up in their own lives and have little time to take note of the accomplishments of others.

I was just thinking. There are plenty of things we do that's really hard that most people don't know or don't care how hard it is. Your business doesn't count because everybody knows starting and running a business is a big deal. And really hard.

Me switching out an anode rod is actually a really hard task that doesn't really affect anything that visibly and most people don't even know what it is. That's the topic of of the thread. Really hard tasks that most people don't know or care about anyway haha.

The last thing I was truly proud of was about five days ago when I avoided having a blue Christmas. Five good shirts I had worn to work before the break were in the dryer, and when I opened the door to take them out, there was a bloodbath, if blood were blue.

A pilot fiber-tipped pen had escaped my notice and made it through the wash cycle in a shirt pocket, but not the dryer. The inside of the drum was covered with blue splotches. The shirts looked like modern art, but not the good kind.

It was 3 a.m, but I sucked it up, went to fetch a bottle of rubbing alcohol, and set about pouring it on any spot I could find on the shirts. A second load of laundry was spinning in the washer so I stopped it, took it out, put it in a basket, ran a load with hot water, and washed the shirts again.

All five came back clean. I was amazed. But, desperate men do desperate things.

More recently, today, I made a great lemon meringue pie, but it's cooling in the fridge until supper, so here's a pic of it, uncut, and another of the broccoli and chicken casserole I made for lunch today. I'm kinda proud of cooking.

Thank you. I love it, too, and it set up nicely, but isn't cold enough yet.

My mom made lemon icebox pie almost exclusively, and to this day, I don't like it, although I did as a kid and when at home. To me, it's just too sweet. The lemon meringue is just the right tang and sweet. Not a fan of meringue much, but couldn't let my pie stay naked, and I'm putting whipped cream on the peanut butter pie, so don't want to do the same for both.
