the amounts of unforced errors are un-acceptable.
Very bad skills wise.

Also, shouldn't they be playing 5 sets coz they get equal pay ?

If Sarina win 6-0, 6-3

the spectators should get a refund. :)

Another in a run of very disappointing Grand Slam women's finals. In fact the women's tournament was disappointing this year, I felt last year's was much better as Maria Sharapova played so blindingly well it was a thrill to watch, particulary the match against Henin. Even then though the final was a slight let down as Ivanovic was awful.

The best matches for the women this time were the upsets - Suarez Navarro over Venus, Bartoli over Jankovic, Kleybanova over Ivanovic.

I usually enjoy women's tennis but this time the men have really shown them how to compete in an awesome Grand Slam event. Let's hope for another great Nadal-Federer final tomorrow. When was the last time a Womens final went to 3 sets? Wimbledon 2006 if I'm not mistaken?? That was also the last decent womens grand slam final... Wimbledon 08 was okay (all-Williams) but not that great.

Tell me again why women demand "equal pay" when they complete a match in 59 mins? Rafa and his opponent played for 5.25 hrs on Friday night for less than Williams took home. For 59 minutes? 59 fucking minutes.

Pay them by the minute. ;)

I would love to see tournaments experiment with women going 5 sets. I think it would be too much to just adopt it across the board because most women have not trained for that and could not do it. A Williams would probably win every week.

No, tennis is about "unforced" errrors,
the less errors you make the better you are.

That's completely false & way too general.

Serena Williams makes way more unforced errors than Martina Hingis did in her prime, but nobody would consider Hingis a better play than Serena.

doesn't really matter. if you don't wanna watch women's tennis. don't watch it. I just think that with a couple big guns retiring and others falling off their form you have to allow for time for the younger players to come into their game a little bit. yeah Safina choked, but when she is playing well she's amazing to watch. ANd the whole argument that they should play 5 sets if they want equal pay. if everyone bitches and moans about a 3 set match would you really like to see them play 5 sets.

oh and on the equal pay thing. if one of the women's players is too good for their opponent and finishes the match quickly... why should they be punished with less pay just because it wasn't 7-6 6-7 7-5.

Simby, the best players make their opponents look bad.

From my understanding, the women players have agreed to play five sets. But, it isn't that simple. That's adding another hour or more on average to each women's match. And, in the majors, when the schedules are already packed, it could have negative implications. Also, I know it doesn't happen all the time, but there have been many past cases where the women's matches were longer than the men's - Venus Williams stated the 2005 Wimbledon final was two hours and forty-five minutes, which was almost an hour longer than the men's final that same year.

That's not true. Some players destroy their opponents and may have more unforced errors. I believe tennis is about winners and unforced errors, but also serving and net play.

Serena is the best player of her generation. Safina is a good player but obviously Serena is a much better tennis player. Serena is a champion and Safina is an overrated chump. The reason Serena blasted Safina off the court is she can handle pressure better. Safina claimed the pressure didn't get to her but it obviously did. Also, I thought it was so stupid of Safina to not change the pace. She didn't hit any slices or come to net or moon balls or anything.

I think its fair to say that for both men and women the pressure of the finals tends to affect the play of first-timers. Which is why in finals veterans generally prevail. I think Safina will be a fine player and may win a final and this experience will help. It takes quite an exceptional player to win his or her first final.

In tennis, i think "moon ball" is the safest shot.

If i am a tennis player. I will use it ALL the time.
If you don't make any errors, moon balls will beat any player. 100% garanteed. ;)

Not in professional tennis, or even advanced tennis.

I've been playing tennis for nine years; I'm not pro by any means, but I will definitely not lose to someone who only hits moonballs.

no not moonballs all the time but most of the time.
I know it doesn't look good but you win matches.

Serena's win was well-deserved, though it was pretty much one-sided. Glad she's into the double digits in slams and back and No. 1.
