Spotnitz Writing X-Files 2

Frank Spotnitz, the mastermind behind much of the mythology of The X-Files, told SCI FI Wire that he has signed on to help write the next movie based on the hit series, but that the new movie won't deal with the show's byzantine conspiracy arc. "There's still a very good chance that we will all do another X-Files movie," Spotnitz said in an interview. Spotnitz was an executive producer on the show, which starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson; it ended its nine-year run in 2002.

One point of contention in getting a second X-Files film off the ground: Series creator Chris Carter is still wrangling with 20th Century Fox over legal matters. "David, Gillian and I, and even Chris Carter, all have deals in place, and once the legal issues are over with, we will go on with it," Spotnitz said. "I'm hoping it will get resolved soon."

Although the script isn't written, the idea is already developed, Spotnitz said. He added that Fox likes the idea, which harkens back to the series' stand-alone episodes rather than the conspiracy to cover up the existence of extra-terrestrials, which was the subject of the first X-Files movie.

"No, we're not going into the mythology [in the sequel]," Spotnitz said. "One of the things that was exciting about doing it is to not make it a mythology story, and it's like one of the stand-alone episodes. It's a bit scary. Of course, we will catch up with the characters and what is going on in their lives, but it's not about the alien conspiracy. It's not about that." The first X-Files movie came out in 1998. —Mike Szymanski

I like the fact that they want to make a "stand alone" film. Don't get me wrong, I love the whole conspiracy/mythology thing that they did, but to me the best episodes were the ones where they were chasing after some unexplained creature or oddity. I loved those episodes. If and when the movie comes out, I sincerely hope its creepy and scary!

Definatly,my excact thoughts.
Basing it like standalone episode will also make it easier for the whole audience to "Get it" aswell
My fave episode was "beyond the see" which was a classsic standalone
and i also liked the Jersey devil ep and the vampire ones

I really hope its creepy aswell, but that said the series was very creepy somtimes,Tooms freaked the crap outta me lol

I loved Eugene Tooms! He really was the creepiest one of the whole lot! One of my favorites was "Detour." The one where they get stalked in the Florida forrest by a couple of "moth men." When I was looking up the episode (I couldn't remember the title until I looked it up), this quote was attached:

Mulder: "Thirty years ago the town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia was terrorised for over a year by something. Killing livestock, terrorising the people. Witnesses described them as primitive looking men with piercing red eyes. Became known as the Moth Men. I got an X-File dated back to 1952 on it."
Scully: "What would that be filed next to? The Cockroach that ate Cincinnatti?"
Mulder: "No, the Cockroach that ate Cincinnatti is in the Cs. Moth Men is over in the Ms."

That was one thing about the show that I really loved. The chemistry between Duchovney and Anderson and the humor! ..|

X-Files 2! Damn, I can't wait to see what those 2 look like after all these years. I will definitely watch that movie as soon as it comes out. Keeping my fingers crossed.

X-Philios Unite! I was so psyched to see an X-Files thread on JUB!!

There's a little bit of everything here. If you don't find it, start one. ;)

I'm still hoping that they will continue with a 'stand alone' film. My guess is yeah, it would have to fall into the events between those sixth and eighth seasons. We'll just have to keep our fingers crossed!

I might see it if it does turn out to be like the stand-alone episodes of the show. Those were always the best. I hated the whole conspiracy story arc and everything involving Mulder's sister...it was all very boring to me.

My favorite episode was the one with the guy who could regenerate himself because his body was basically nothing but cancer cells. He was decapitated at the beginning of the episode and came back to life. It scared the crap out of me.

yay! update! :gogirl:

Duchovny: X-Files 2 Script Is Done

David Duchovny, who played special agent Fox Mulder on the television series The X-Files and in the 1998 feature film, told reporters that he will be getting a finished script of a proposed second movie this week. Speaking in a news conference at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills, Calif. on July 14, Duchovny said that The X-Files creator Chris Carter drafted the new script with longtime producing partner Frank Spotnitz. (Duchovny was promoting his new Showtime series Californication.)

"Chris has written it with Frank Spotnitz, and Chris will direct it," Duchovny said. "And [co-star Gillian Anderson is] on board, and I'm on board, and that's all I can tell you. I mean, I'm looking forward to seeing what he did."

Rumors of a second film have been circulating since the previous one came out. This time, Duchovny said that the long-anticipated sequel project is finally moving forward.

"Before, I would just say that because they told me," Duchovny said. "But now I've been talking to Chris and he's been giving me progress reports. He actually called yesterday and said next week we should have something."

Duchovny added that he's looking forward to bringing back Mulder because "he's cool." Filming for the proposed stand-alone film would begin in November, with an eye toward release in the summer of 2008, he said. —Cindy White

cant wait to hear what they have come up with

i heard the same as well!!

i really hope they go the 'scary' route.

that's what drew me into the show in the first place, the creep factor!!

Maybe this will mark the return of the giant hallucinogenic fungus! Best enemy ever.

Haha what a great episode! When Mulder and Scully join hands at the end, I was so moved. But anyway, I don't see why they're doing a movie that isn't within the alisn-myth-arc.

There's a storyline which will never be resolved. Will the aliens colonise the earth? Will Mulder and Scully save the day? It'll be a mystery forever.

At least we can have one more film to remember them. I just hope it will be a decent swan song. (And perhaps with Dogget and Reyes too).
