X-Men:First Class

No to Kate Hudson and hell no to Tilda Swinton. A lot disagree about January's performance but I honestly can't see Emma any other way. She wasn't a major character in this film, which was why I think we expect more from her. I think she did a fantastic job introducing Emma Frost to the big screen to those who did not know of her before the movie. Not trying to spoil it for others but obviously Emma will be in the sequel and I know January will do a flawless job.

Well remember a lot thought the same about Halle Berry's storm, performance wise at least. She like January didn't have much and had to make the best with what she had, not until X3 which didn't by then because the movie was made of crap, crap and more crap. Maybe if we get a sequel we'll get less of the follower they made Emma be and more White Queen. But I agree, I couldn't see any other actress portraying her, especially not Kate Hudson. Nothing against her but just no.

Yeah, that was the whole point of her introduction, she was portrayed to be submissive until the end where *tries not to spoil* she had a little visit from --- in the room she was held in.

Aw, I liked Emma's outfits. They were swinging man.

Same, but I thought it could use a little polishing. She's been my favorite X-Man so I need her to be fiercer lol.

In my opinion Halle was and still is the worst casting as "Storm"...The role should have gone to Grace Jones or Naomi Campbell..Grace Jones would have nailed it...

I thought January did a decent job but it sounds like you guys would have been more pleased with Reese Witherspoon or Charlize Theron...Either one would have given you the "Emma" you wanted to see on screen....

No! Not Reese Witherspoon! I would have puked! I loved January Jones!

Agreed. Halle was a terrible Storm. The problem was finding someone at the time who could really capture Ororo's essence on the screen at the time. Most of the ladies who popped into my head were too old to portray the character. My sleeper for Storm was always Gabrielle Union, although I admit that my opinion was influenced more by aesthetics than anything else.

The perfect casting for Storm would've been a 20-something Iman. She had the look, she has a powerful personality, she didn't have to fake the accent and has just enough attitude while still maintaining the high level of dignity and class that Ororo commands on paper.

I don't think January did a bad job either. Her performance seemed to be a direct result of the script. The character of the White Queen didn't seem to be scripted to be as...strong as we are accustomed. A strong Emma tends to take center stage in stories as I recall. This story wasn't about her, therefore, the weaker presence she had in the script.

Reese Witherspoon couldn't pull the character off properly. She has that "sweet girl next door" vibe going on. I see Reese I can't shake Legally Blonde and Sweet Home Alabama from my head. I wouldn't care if she was playing a naked, crack addicted, lesbian prostitute...she'd still be Elle McPherson going through an "experimental phase" while on a drug binge. LOL!

Now Charlize Theron I could see doing a good job.

Aside from January, you know who I thought would've made a perfect Emma Frost? Rebecca Romijn! She has the bitch attitude and let's not forget, the body. There was one part in X2 when she injected metal into the security guard for Magneto to escape, she was like "Hi, my name is Grace" and I thought it was Emma making a cameo as Emma's nickname is Grace. I thought she was perfect, but of course, she's even better as Mystique.

This is my first time seeing Namoi Campbell or Gabrielle Union mention for Storm. Though I've always seen Angela Bassett as Storm personally, or a younger Angela anyways. But ever since seeing Matrix: Reloaded I don't think Nona Gaye would do a terrible job either.

As for Charlize Theron as Emma Frost I have no doubts she would owned it. But again, January wasn't horrible. Rebecca Romijn would probably have done a good job as well.

Ever since seeing Alien vs Predator, Sanaa Lathan has be a strong contender for Storm in my eyes. Something about her in that movie always screamed strong female leader who was also compassionate. I encourage anybody to watch it again just her performance. But I agree, there's so few actresses who could pull her off. As always Angela Bassett would've killed had the part years ago (and still would if we ever had an older Storm).

And Charlize is always my number one pick for Emma Frost for so many reasons.

^ Oh yes, Sanaa Lathan did hold her own in that movie. I honestly think she portrayed the character with a lot more fortitude than originally written. I would love to see her onscreen as Storm. Can't believe I forgot about her >.<

I think January did good for the Emma that was written. She wasn't as major of a character in First Class. I think she was supposed to be the passive, cold right-hand lady. The Emma Frost in this movie acted more like Sage, who was also a part of The Hellfire Club.

What I was more concerned about was the mutant lineup. It was incredibly weak. Banshee? Darwin? Female Angel?! Out of all the mutants available, they chose those? And what was the purpose of Darwin dying?

The fight scene between Banshee and Angel looked pretty silly. Other than that, the graphics were spot-on.

I'd definately see this movie again.

Finally downloaded this the other night. Awful waste of a dvd-r disk.

Couldn't get past the fact that Havok, Cyclops's brother, was in this. He'd be twice cyclop's age in the other movies. Mystique and Xavier? Ridiculous. Mystique hitting on Beast, ridiculous. Moira as a secret CIA agent instead of being a Scottish scientist? Total Suckage. Banshee wasn't even Irish!?!

Was the red evil guy supposed to be Nightcrawler's father?

Emma Frost, with powers she only got in the past couple of years in the comics, so much inconsistencies and completely rewritten X-histories.

The whole movie was just complete crap.

Why would you watch an X-Men movie with the intentions of it following the comics?

The director already stated that he was not going to follow the comics long before it was released. That was common knowledge.

That was my main problem with this film just didn't care for the mutants featured. But that is mainly because my knowledge extends no further then the 90's animated series so I didn't recognize some. Such as Angel I thought for sure the producer's made up this mutant just to feature Zoe Kravites (who is very pretty) in this film. Overall very good movie and think it's one of the better films in the X-men franchise.

Really? I actually liked the fight scene between Angel and Banshee. We got to see both characters in action. I didn't think we'd see much of Angel or Banshee from what they showed in the previews.

As for the graphics, when Banshee first flew the graphics were a little lazy lol, but after that they were pretty awesome

I didn't expect it to follow exactly, but expected something resembling the X-men I used to read about as a kid. Not characters made just for movie or characters totally recreated as something they never were. Apparantly anyone can rewrite anything nowadays and people eat it up, wether it's crap or not it seems.

I know, I'll write up a screenplay rebooting the Fantastic Four. It'll have Lil orphan Annie as the leader, Seth Rogan as himself, Micheal Jackson's corpse playing Dollman, and my cat playing Black Panther. It's not related in any way, shape, or form to the comic, but hey, that's what reboots are all about these days.

And had no prior clue about anything relating to the movie, other than a few posts here and on another forum. Read nothing at all about anything said by anyone related to the film.

This film was just pure garbage. X3 was done better, and that was total poo.

Well, I've read that this was based off the Ultimate Universe's X-Men (as many Marvel movies are)-- or at least some aspects were taken from that, such as Alex Summers being older than Scott. So if you were expecting something from a kid it wouldn't be this obviously, because the Ulitimate Universe is fairly old (didn't they kill just about every X-Men in those comics? Anyone?)

However, I wouldn't go as far as saying this was worse than X3...Brett killed off 'Phoenix', Xavier, and Cyclops. Who does that...

At first I didn't either, but Matt did says he wanted to start fresh and new, make his own X-Men or something like that, whatever. I guess that explains why he chose characters not everyone would be familiar with, because I sure as hell didn't like what I saw when first seeing the previews a few months back.

Woah. I should be beaten for not thinking of Angela Bassett. Great call on that one, star. The image I have of her is her character in Strange Days, but I am certain she would've nailed Ororo.

Decent movie, but I found the changes from the 616 universe distracting.

Kevin Bacon makes a better villain than anything. Bacon in The River Wild? Amazing film, I wish they hadn't killed him though. I would have liked to see him back for the sequel.

How good was the the kill though?! It just brought the whole thing full circle! Loved it.

Wasn't crazy about the movie. That Magneto sure is packin'. Looks like he wasn't a big fan of briefs or underwear.
