YASSSSSSSSSS Colin is getting his collusion trial-- NFL shoulda just STFU and let the man kneel

Having a grievance about the dubious actions of individual cops in a few high-profile cases is perfectly legitimate.

Questioning whether the correct disciplinary procedures are in place, and police accountability, is perfectly legitimate.

Stating that in some cases there is a casual and flippant disregard about excessive use of force is perfectly legitimate.

Campaigning for change and reform in the police and criminal justice system is perfectly legitimate.

"But." The most disingenuous word in the english language. It basically neutralizes everything previously said. For reference, see "I'm not racist BUT" [proceeds to say some wildly racist shit].

Calling into question the ability of ALL Americans to unite behind BOTH (a) the American flag and anthem AND (b) uniting around watching a national sport AND (c) effectively trying to force it weekly into Americans faces through their TV screens whether they want to see it or not is NOT CONSTRUCTIVE.

"Trying to force it?" :rotflmao: "Whether they want to see it?" :rotflmao: I'm sorry that our oppression isn't sexy enough for your tv screen. Maybe Colin should've knelt with some Chippendale's dancers to his left and right.

It does nothing but divide further. It does not convince anyone. It only creates animosity and bad feeling. If these players were truly interested in uniting the country, they would be TALKING to Americans. Not SIGNALLING to them. And not doing so in such an obviously crass, cynical, blatant and inflammatory way.

No. Just, no. There is only one appropriate response to cries for justice and that is support. Total, whole support. Not "I support you BUT do it in a way that's less offensive to my sensitivities." Need I remind you, America as a whole has never in its history supported any black protest no matter how peaceful. If someone says "Police are killing my people" and your response is anything less than "How can I help?" or at least "I care." [note the period, not "I care BUT] then the problem lies wholly and squarely with YOU.

They do nothing in this action at all, at best nothing will change, and at worst this conflating of 'protest' with race and nation could be making racial tensions and national polarisation worse.

Ahhh, my favorite lie. That by calling attention to it we're making it worse. If my ancestors hadn't called attention to it, ALWAYS in ways that upset white America [for the most part] I would still be in chains, or living in the ghetto, or going to a subpar school.

Again, if your response to social injustice is anything BUT undaunting and unending support then the problem is you. "Yeah, I know cops are killing your people but don't interrupt my pre-football game festivities." Where is your heart?

Not quite. They got people thinking and they got people talking.

There is a criminally unnoticed irony that white American men have so much to say about who/what/when/where/why/how women and minorities should or shouldn't protest. And the overwhelming majority of the time the response is "You shouldn't. You're doing it wrong. Yeah, your cause is important [a disingenuous display of support] BUT don't do it this way, or that way, or at that time, you can protest so long as it doesn't offend me." I'm offended that you aren't standing next to me protesting with me, as you would be if this were happening to your people at half the rate that it is mine.

But I digress.

That the way we protest garners infinitely more anger than what we're protesting speaks very poorly of America's priorities and lack of empathy and certainly shows a sincere and deep disdain for people of color.

and in today's episode of "Proving his point" people are enraged at Nike for choosing Colin. It almost seems like they're more upset about an endorsement deal than they are about police brutality and racial injustice. Weird, right?

In my heart I am really and truly happy. I'm pumped for some Colin swag. At long fucking last! Amen Amen Amen.
I'm gonna buy an authentic pair of Colin kneepads. I'll lend you one with a great big hug and the kiss of a lifetime.

I'm so glad he stayed the course and I knew that if he waited long enough he would see a return for his bravery.

this would have been a quiet moment of protest that would have led a lot of young people who love football-- to think----the trashy scumbag in chief has thrown fuel on the fire for political gain---even dividing us even in sports---and of course once again---ever the vindictive lowlife--- it is not for country but for HIMSELF because the NFL would not let him buy a team---they knew he was toxic----because as been said everything this guy touches turns to shit---so the trump morons will burn NIKE products and I will go out and buy a pair of NIKE sneakers.

who wants to explain to these fuckheads that cutting up something you already purchased is not a boycott?

Real patriots are not silent while anyone is suffering.
So true, so simple, so principled, so universal, and part of the Human Rights Politics that did more for more people, including gays, than more recent Identity Politics ever could.

So close and yet so far:

I love Kaepernick and the way he protests, but I guess that’s wrong because of my skin colour. Or do I get a pass because I’m not American?

Anyway time for my monthly repost of Kenan Malik’s excellent article

It seems only right to me that this man should be tried for kneeling. After all, an Englishman who kept his hat on during the national anthem would undoubtedly be sent to the Tower during Her Majesty's pleasure. Fair's fair.

I am off to bed on a day when I've been reassured by two friends and Colin Is The Man For The Fallen. It is a wonderful day.
