Beloved makeup artist Jasen Kaplan’s cause of death revealed

Kaplan died in a New York City hospital just hours before the ball dropped in Times Square on Dec. 31. He was 46 years old.

“He was a great artist, and a sweet guy,” a longtime friend told us of Kaplan, “When people started working with him, they often stayed with him for years.”

“He really was important to a lot of people,” said one, “some of his clients had been with him more than 20 years. They’re going to take it very hard.”

This guy did untold damage to legitimate archeology. A shyster, A grifter.

I read some of his books and thought there may have been a grain of truth to some of what he said, but then he went off on a tangent.

Oh come on - damage..?
Not more than Independence day or Close encounters of the 3rd kind. Or the bible...
He thought and wrote the unthinkable and this in a very entertaining way.

As a fantasist, his work was entertaining...but he had no problem presenting lies and fabrications as fact.

I won't argue that a literal translation of the Bible has misled millions of people to the point of bloodshed and evil, but von Daniken's work and movies are not comparable.
He has created and fed the conspiracy theories for millions of weak minded and gullible readers to the point of naked and cruel grift. Even now, legitimate, conservative
archeology work is daily assaulted by a whole class of pseudo-archeologists with mentally feeble followers on social media with some having invaded the academic spaces as well.

Maybe like a lot of other con artists, the worst thing is having contributed to the dumbing down of everything.

That writing as careless as Däniken's, whose principal thesis is that our ancestors were dummies, should be so popular is a sober commentary on the credulousness and despair of our times. I also hope for the continuing popularity of books like Chariots of the Gods? in high school and college logic courses, as object lessons in sloppy thinking. I know of no recent books so riddled with logical and factual errors as the works of Däniken
— Carl Sagan, Foreword to The Space Gods Revealed

Jack apparently spoke to Von Däniken once, but I forgot what he actually said.

I adored the book of Cosmos, mostly for the illustrations, but I thought that Sagan leaned toward the pedantic at times.

As skeptics, I liked Penn & Teller better.

Of course, Neil deGrasse Tyson is an even worse pedant.
