wishing to get to make some new friends.
if possible, someone i could get a bit more personal with, and keep a meaningful relationship.

i have a web cam, but im usually conservative and shy. i wont use my web cam for cyber pleasures, at least not until im confortable

im usually quite, polite, and careful, but i talk alot more once im ice broken.

i dont really know how to properly describe me and give people the idea of what kind of person i am. i suppose listing hobbies could help describe me.
i do well in school, going into university for biochemical sciences, like to play tennis, badminton, piano, learning guitar, started working out seriously in 2006, love watching movies, and im horny every now and then...

english is my first language, but i also speak very fluent chinese.

em, thats me. if im understood and your interested in getting to know me. please leave a pm and message. msn address is prefered. please also have real pictures or webcam. it strange to not really know who im really talking to.

age preference.. maybe 18 to 30? i think most people here fall into that category right?

i hope i dont sound weird

That doesn't sound weird at all tylerpark66, if you want to talk I'm willing to chat with you, if you're interested in making friends just send me a PM, I don't speak Chinese but I speak english fluently lol.

i'm 18 ontario, canada
asian as well :D haha
oh by the way, you can't speak "chinese" haha it's either cantonese or mandarin :p
chinese isn't a language :p
hit me up a private message if you're interested (anyone)

haha jockboy25 I think he was dumbing it down for us non mandarin cantonese folk. Most people don't know there are two different languages spoken in China. Later folks!

well then... i speak cantonese and english, and i understand mandarin as well

There are more that 2 different language in china. There are the language of minorities groups and different dialects in use in china.

yes I'm aware of that but the two officially recognized languages are Cantonese and Mandarin. Other local dialects can be compared to the same as saying those native american languages from the tribes located throughout north america.

i believe there are 51 different dialects accounted for in china. but almost all civilized chinese use either mandarin or cantonese.

What do you mean by civilised chinese using either mandarin or cantonese? Most state and province in china have their own dialect. And cantonese is just one of the many dialects in china. It is used mainly in guang zhou, shen zhen, macau and hong kong.

civilized as in having access to the internet. chinese that have computers, for the most part, speak either cantonese or mandarine.

Hi tyler,
Mind sharing with me how you come to the view that chinese that have computers, for the most part, speak either cantonese or mandarin?

huh???

for the most part, mandarin is the main language in china. the public and all that is related to government take mandarin as a standard language. they wouldnt broadcast news in any other dialect. u can have different accents in different regions but for the most part, mandarin is the common language that anything official would use. as for those minority with self unique dialects, some move out into the city and etc, but they still end up learning mandarin so they could communicate properly. the dialects arnt lost, but they arnt useful.

cantonese however is a different case. cantonese is the official languange in hongkong. i dont know how it started, but it always had been. they never really had to learn mandarin until recently because the british empire was in control of hongkong, and those chinese were more occupied with learning english than mandarin. hongkong has been independance from china, although china still looks after hongkong as a mother country.
hongkong has been a very civilized city because of influences from british empire. being civilized, everyone in hongkong has a computer and has internet.

china isnt civilized throughout, and by population, only a minority of those chinese have access to internet.

as a result, everyon who has internet either uses cantonese or mandarin. no other dialect.

those dialects arnt popular enough for efficient communication.

well seems a little battle of dialects has broken out....

but tyler, hey.... ;) hahah seriously I totally see where you're coming from in the introduction... maybe we could chat sometime.:D

Well i don't think you should compare this way, Hongkong has a population of about 7 million while Taiwan has a population of about 23 million. And the taiwanese chinese do not not speak cantonese. They speak mandarin and minnan (southern min, which is known as hokkien in Malaysia and Singapore).

And lets see the 2 most affluent cities of china, Beijing with a population of 15 million and Shanghai with a population of 20 million (shanghai natives use shanghainese), and the majority there do not speak cantonese.

And not forgetting the chinese in Singapore and Malaysia where there are more hokkien speakers than cantonese speakers. Also, indonesian chinese can speak hokkien even if they can't speak mandarin.

And on your comment that everyone in hongkong has a computer and access to the internet, that is just so untrue. HK may be rich and has a high internet penetration rate but there are always poor people around in every countries. There are homeless people in HK too. Furthermore, not even the world's largest economy, USA and the world's 2nd largest economy Japan can boast of a 100% computer ownership and internet access by their citizens. There are also poor and homeless people there too.

This is why i don't agree with what you said.

...I'm pretty sure the original intention of this thread wasn't to start a Mandarin-versus-Cantonese-versus-all-other-Chinese-dialects war.

Just a thought.

Wait...I didn't even mean to look in this thread. I thought I had posted in here, but I guess not. So...don't mind me.
