NARAS has 110 categories the official announcement of the Grammy Nominations takes place live via satellite on December 8, 2007. Its a bit of a disappointing shortlist, particularly in the "rock" categories.

Also, if those songs down as "Song of the year" represent the best of 2007, then it ranks as one of the worst years in history.
 
I will quote Grammy-winner and Chicago Native, Kanye West, "Rihanna's "Umbrella" ; Amy Winehouse's "Back To Black" and "Frank" and his "Graduation" album are the only thing relevant in music this year" earning Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, Cum Laude distinctions. As you know the music industry has been a downward spiral since the advent of the internet and the poor-to-mediocre quality. Especially the rock category has fractured into a males-only orientated and dominated genre of alternative, hip-hop and rap-rock, hardcore rock, metal rock, punk-rock, and acid-rock. According to Billboard magazine and Sound scan, American Idol has a negative impact on consumers. Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts"; Chris Daughty's "Daughty" ; Nickelback's "All The Right Reasons" ; Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway" ; Mariah Carey's Emancipation Of Mimi" sold in excess of 28 million in the United States alone with Daughty selling 3 millions and the rest 6 million apiece. Grammy gal, Alicia "Pink!" Moore was the last female rocker to win a Grammy in the defunk "Female Rock Vocal Performance" category. I am happy to witness a rebirth of Rock-n-Roll in general retracing it's origins and roots back to classical, blues, jazz, pop, soul, rhythm-and-blues and funk.

I'm assuming this only pertains to major releases and only to pop music. There is an amazing amount of wonderful music made each year that doesn't end up on MTV or cell phone commercials.
 
This has got to be a wishlist. The Grammy nominations are not announced until December. These are probably some of the songs submitted for contention.
 
Indies and non-commercial acts unsigned to major conglomerates [Sony/BMG & Virgin/EMI/Geffen] Imogen Heap, Diana Kraull and Susan Tedeschi are Grammy winners who've broken through the mainstream commercialized of the Music Television Generation with limited airplay and music video exposure instead relied on the old-fashion true-formula of concert promotion to sell records and demonstrate their acoustic ability to live audience in sold-out ventures. I protest and rebel against the American Idolization of pop culture and society. I am Aficionado and Ivy-League educated in the arts and classics.

Rihanna clearly can be nominated for much more.

How on earth can she be left out of Dance Record and either pop or contempory R&B album? Have you listened to it?


And how can it get an Album of the year nomination but not get nominated in its individual category.


And just for the record i spoke with a music insider and he said that technically Rihanna can still get a best new artist nomination because UMBRELLA made Rihanna known to the entire world.

Yes people liked S.O.S and Unfaithful and Pon De Replay, but they would hear the song and say, " i love that song but i have no idea who is singing it."

It doesnt ,matter how many albums an artist has or if its their debut year.

Its complicated and subjective but if the academy really liked Rihanna you can be assured that UMBRELLA wont be her only nomination.


Because lets get real the Grammy people know they messed up last year by not nominating, S.O.S for best dance recording. They should feel bad and want to make up for the snub.


And why isn't Regina Spektor listed? Fidelity is awesome. And she should get a best new artist nomination too. Infact she should have gotten it last year but i doubt anyone would have beaten Carrie.


And she year she could be up against Amy and Robin and Rihanna, now thats tough.


Anyways i was gonna wait till the 30th but i am so excited for Rihanna i am going to revive my Rihanna Grammy thread right now. Its in the entertainment forum :)
