On Topic Discussion 2019 Coronavirus (COVID-19/SARS-CoV-2)

The story that isn't getting covered in the national news at the moment:

More than 1,100 COVID deaths were reported in the U.S. this week, the highest since March, as the summer wave continued with nearly 170,000 new cases, according to figures collected by BNO News. Cases appear to have peaked in some areas.

At least 169,217 new cases were reported between August 12 and August 18, up slightly from 168,243 the week before (+0.6%). Those figures were collected from state health departments and, where necessary, estimated based on hospital admissions.

Actual case numbers are higher because many hospitals and states are no longer reporting detailed COVID data. Laboratory testing is also low as most people and doctors are using at-home tests which are not included in official statistics.

There have been some anecdotal reports and occasional comments like, "Yeah, everyone I know has COVID right now" on programs, but it wasn't until attendees of the DNC convention in Chicago started complaining that they returned home with COVID that people became aware that we're in an early surge of COVID.

We anticipate a jump in COVID cases around holidays. Going into the Hallowe'en through New Years Eve period with high case levels isn't a good sign.

Conventions are the worst.

It is how I contracted COVID last December.

And this morning, as I wrestle with two issues triggered by COVID 9 months on...I still regret having been made to attend.

I didn't hear anything, but I wonder if the republican convention experienced the same phenomenon? I assume they would have.

I just received a new supply of N99 masks. I'm going to start wearing masks again when I go to places with a lot of people. So far, I have escaped getting it.

I thought i read (after DNC mass event was reported) that the RNC required masking and temp checks?????

The republican convention was over a month before the Democratic convention. I didn't see any masks at their convention. Republicans are notoriously anti-mask. An RNC mask mandate would never have happened. It would have caused open rebellion among their delegates. No one would have worn one. Probably they would have rejected temp checks too.

The fall boosters seem to be delayed....this worries me.

I am still experiencing fallout SVT and chest related issues from Covid last December....

Damn Biden. He spread it to everyone 😉

I'm also reading some pharmacies are ordering less Covid vaccine because they lost a lot of money having to waste so many expired doses they purchased last year due to low uptake.

We are lucky. Universal healthcare covers all of this. We don't have to worry about lost doses here and I suspect we have a much better uptake rate.

The MOH in Ontarion knows the cost of one spolied dose of vaccine is infinitesimely small compared to the cost of a hospitalized Covid case or even the management required in a nursing home.

After 3 years where the US Government picked up most of the cost of the COVID vaccines, this year is going to be a change. The doses are being distributed by the manufacturer in pre-filled syringes instead of multi-dose vials. That should reduce some of the waste.

For Medicare and Medicaid patients, the government will pick up the cost and the vaccines can be obtained at urgent care clinics and pharmacies.

For private insurance patients, the vaccines are covered at 100% but must be obtained at an in-network provider in order to have insurance cover the cost. The out-of-network cost will be over $200.

There is supposed to be doses allocated for the uninsured but those may be limited to public health clinics and may be harder to obtain.

Just an update as COVID cases swirl around us. Paxlovid seems to be a must if you are diagnosed this fall.

But. I have to agree with the studies that COVID can age you incredibly. Both my partner and I have ongoing long COVID issues and for me, it seems to also include sometimes the clarity and speed of the thought process.

^^
This certainly explains a lot of things coming from the Cov-idiots.

The article doesn't mention it, but I would assume the best guard against the mental and brain impacts of Covid-19 would be vaccination and Paxlovid if you become infected?

Welp.

It has been running around our area for some weeks now and after being in the City this week for a conference session, I am pretty sure we have it again.

Unfortunately, it is the weekend and don't want to go into the Emerg dept. so will have to wait until Monday to get a prescription for Pavloxid which will hopefully make it shorter duration and less horrible than last year. :(

Even if you test negative, you might ask if the doctor will write a prescription for Paxlovid so that you have it on hand. That way, if you have a positive COVID test in the future, you will be able to start treatment immediately instead of having to be seen in urgent care.

And I had meant to do that when our neighbour had Covid about a month ago....

This is excellent advice.

off for a sleep...it seems to be too difficult to do anything today.
