60% first-year class brought Macs to school

"I kind of felt like [Apple computers are] the future," he said.

And these kids are our future leaders. Scary.

I don't hate Macs, but I'm not sure I would ever get one. It's just not for me. I'm more comfortable with Linux and WinXP and I don't see a good reason to change, especially since I like customizing hardware.

I love my MBP... I sorta got forced into Mac's by my brother a few years back, at first there was some teething problems, but now its ok...

until i start college next week where I will have to do programming... >_<

For most people who don't need much software outside of Office, Macs fit the bill very well, especially there's some software that runs on Windows only. I'm not surprised that so many students bought Macs.

I run OS X, Vista and Ubuntu on my MacBook Pro. I there something about your programming that can't be done on MBP hardware?

I dont have a copy of Vista yet, but I'll get it soon. But if I have to work on Visual Basic, I will throw a wobbly...

What do you expect? My generation (and younger), i.e. people who currently probably have low paying jobs, but have the safety net of their parents such that they are able to spend or go into debt without much immediate worry, are the number one target of advertisement. That's not to mention the late-teens identity crisis and the need to be "cool." All that combines to an awesome market for heavy-marketing companies, like Apple, to step in and say "Hey, if you don't want to look like a fool, choose us."

That's not to say that Apple computers are all style and no substance, but kids now-a-days drink kool-aid like it's water without a second thought. It's just part of life now.
