I'm looking to purchase a new computer,i have a old Compaq laptop so would like to purchase a new laptop my budget $1200.00.But my question is what is the difference between a 64 bits vs a 32 bit? thanks:D

Thank you noelie, i knew i came to right place for tech help.btw buying a computer now can be overwhelming,so much to look out for and I'm not very tech savvy. Thanks again.

If you get the 64bit make sure any software you get it 64bit compatable. some will still work but you have to hassle with dwnloading drivers/software and even that sometimes does not work.

I just got a new Dell w/64bit vista, I think it works great, Iwe got our nieces a Dell with vista but w/o 64bit and we can see that differance.

I agree - get a Mac - it just works...end of. That will be my next computer. I'm tired of playing around now. I'm sick of my Windows Mobile phone already - too many options, too many hacks - I don't want to see behind the scenes any more I just want shit to work for me.

Amen to that! Sometimes you just don't want to tinker around.

Definitely get hardware that is 64 bit. But if you're doing windows... get the 32 bit version of the OS.

Linux you could use a 64 bit os but you should also install 'ioctl32' since many drivers and yadda yadda are non-existent in 64.

I run a 32 bit Linux on my 64 bit hardware simply for compatibility as even some 64 bit in linux is wonky, but since my kernel and binaries are 686 optimized it performs just a schoch under non-optimized x86-64 anyways.

I too have found 32 bit Linux distros to work better than 64 bit. I've been using Fedora Core 9 64 bit, and after the 2nd install it is work pretty smoothly.

Thank you guys for all the advice , I'll just keep saving and probably buy me a mac ( love the macpro) and avoid the hassles you guys mention. I was just confused with all 64 bits and 32 bits. Thanks again :-)

Oh honeyyy I didn't mean they weren't 64 bit. I meant to say "outdated and overpriced" please forgive my transgression ;)

Actually depends on when you buy them, atleast in Sweden.
During the Unibody upgrade they were the cheapest and fastest laptop on the market.

Waiting six months and buying and Mac and then calling them overpriced and outdated is kinda stupid.
