That stretch of the Pacific Rim experiences earthquakes of that magnitude fairly frequently in geologic time. Must be one hell of a fault slip that keeps occurring. The Kuriil Islands are one of the three most severe quake sites on the planet, alongside the coast of Chile, and Seward, AK.

The Washington State Emergency Management Division (WA EMD) confirmed that the tsunami advisory for Washington state had been cancelled by mid-morning Wednesday, 30 JULY 2025.
