Many who have dug themselves in to the heterosexual masquerade with wives and children and a factory job just to be able to have food and shelter and to hang on to the only support group they know.

But, I also suspect that most people, gay and straight, end up settling for mates and lives that never come close to the lovers and lives that they had hoped for.

Sadly there are all sorts of pressures on people to conform, social, religious etc

Depressing but seems accurate. I don't understand being so attached to delusions. Like my brother is marrying this manipulative fake princess just because she gave him an ultimatum and it fits with his timeline of school/career/marriage/house/baby. He's invested.

Hopefully if the revolution succeeds we'll all become our free, honest bonobo selves and find true fulfillment. (then the Earth will be a fiery ball of toxic landfill, but still.)

Well, PipRosi, I'm one of those men. Although not masquerading as a married-with-children type of situation. I'm retired now and I'll probably die with only about 2 guys on this planet know I am gay. Why? I've always lived in a small rural community with a profession that dealt with other people that are sometimes at their worst behavior. A profession like a school principle or prison guard. And after so many years / decades going by, and still living in the same area, I just feel like there is no point in coming out. Yes, I have a sex-less life, but the only way to have any sex activity would be to use Grindr or GrowLr (the other less popular apps usually don't have any more than one or two members within a hundred miles).
