A GOOD Mission: Impossible movie?

Sneakers is a good movie. I've watched it several times. I guess you could say it is a "Mission Impossible" type of movie.

Sneakers was a damn good movie. It wasn't an action film like M:I, it had a great script, great cast and was a lot of fun.

Don't get me started. I LOVED Mission Impossible. I loved the plan, the execution of it, the way no one knew what was really happening to them, the way even the audience was sometimes fooled.

Mission Impossible is about winning by using your head. What a bunch of wonderful films those could have been. Instead, they made silly adventure films with a lot of testosterone and no brains. I was so disappointed in them.

Yes, Sneakers is a great MI movie. And, of course, The Sting. Also Ocean's 11.

How true! I think the first movie came somewhat close to this concept of slight of hand and subterfuge that was so prevelant in the series. If I had to make a choice, the first movie was the best.

This is why Sneakers worked. With the obvious exception of Robert Redford you had a bunch of damn good actors working a really well done script.

Sneakers was a great movie.

Those silly tom Cruise vehicles don't even understand what Mission Impossible is SUPPOSED to be.. a group effort.. a bunch of people who are pulling off a hiest together.

and the second one with those sily rubber masks made it seem like a scooby doo movie.

M:I 2 was woeful, but M:I was a good movie.

You guys are forgetting that in order to resurrect an elderly TV series and freshen it for today's viewer, it does need a makeover. Think Charlie's Angels - watchable and fun, if not brilliant - compared to The Mod Squad or Lost in Space or The Dukes of Hazzard, all of which were atrocious.

Sneakers was also really good.

I actually liked Lost in Space.

I even bought it. !oops!

Oh good! I thought I was the only one.

To this day I still wish I had my own Robot. The big blue one so he can walk with me to the store.

I didn't think Lost in Space was so horrible either.

I DID think MI2 was that horrible.

The original series had some great actors. My favorites were Martin Landau and Barabara Bain but I liked Lesley Ann Warren too.

And, of course, the hottie himself...Peter Lupus!

Here's the cast:

Dan Briggs (Season 1) played by STEVEN HILL
Jim Phelps (Seasons 2-7) played by PETER GRAVES
Rollin Hand (Seasons 1-3) played by MARTIN LANDAU
The Great Paris (Seasons 4-5)played by LEONARD NIMOY
Barney Collier (Seasons 1-7) played by GREG MORRIS
Cinnamon Carter (Seasons 1-3) played by BARBARA BAIN
Tracey (Season 4) played by LEE MERIWETHER
Dana Lambert (Season 5) played by LESLEY WARREN
Casey (Seasons 6-7) played by LYNDA DAY GEORGE
Willy Armitage (Seasons 1-7) played by PETER LUPUS
Dr Doug Robert (aka Lang) (Seasons 5-6) played by SAM ELLIOTT
Mimi Davies (Season 7) played by BARBARA ANDERSON

Oooh, I hated Lost in Space.

But I think we're all in agreement that M:I 2 was a woeful waste of everyone's time. Technically impressive - thanks, John Woo - but what a one-trick pony it was by halfway through with everyone pulling off each other's faces all the time.

The old Mission Impossible series was so brilliant. Sneakers was great, too (I own it), but the MI movies are crap. The first one was tolerable, but only if I pretended it wasn't trying to be MI.

I can't say I blame Tom Cruise, because the writing in the current series of M:I movies has been horrible. The first one was painful to watch the writing was so bad. I can't believe a second was ever made as bad as the first one was. The original TV series was so well written, maybe my expectations was just too high. After the first one, I have never paid to see one of the M:I movies.
