Just watching the weather now and we have gone for 367 days without a rain fall of more than 50mm. We are in a 'green drought' where we get infrequent showers that keep the grass green, but do not produce run-off to fill the dams. Our resivours are now below 25% full and we are yet to have the summer heat!

I think it just rained a bit last night but that's just not enough for anything at all! :(

Thats not good! Here comes water rationing.

Well we just got 13.5 inches of rain in Houston in the last 24 hours......

Davey

^Maybe you send some to Australia.

We've been going through drought conditions all summer here in S.A. Our water comes from the Edwards Aquifer and needs rainfall to be replenished. Thankfully we've had a couple of good rain events, but not enough to lift the drought restrictions. Just this morning they were predicting we would have a wetter than usual winter due to El Nino, so hopefully we'll get more. So long as it doesn't flood. Flooding is a massive pain in the ass.

You too are surrounded by water... a few de-salinisation plants and you're laughing.

Technology often causes as many problems as it solves.

Yeah, we can have people living in flood plains, because we can build dams and levys. Uh, until a flood or hurricane (Katrina) comes along.

Technology makes us think we can overcome nature. But it comes back and bites us.

Maybe we should abuse Mother Nature less, and let her repair herself; rather than apply useless technological band aids.

Just something to think about.

You don't already have it? California had rationing for years after a couple long droughts scared the shit out of them.

(Do they still have it? I don't live there anymore but I get the impression they've had a lot of rain the past few years.)

^Not at the moment. But rationing comes around every few years... I moved to CA in the middle of a 7 year drought. I was not ready for that!

Our rationing becomes more severe at the end of the month. I think it bans any use except drinking and washing, but I'm not sure!:(

Wow, I can't even imagine life in Australia if you have the kind of severe drought that's afflicted parts of the US in recent years. A year without rain is nothing compared to what California went through at least twice.

We at least have mountains with snow, and a state can always buy water from another state. You guys use, what -- wells? What happens when they dry up?

Where you would you get the water from? Better start building desalination plants....

"If it's yellow, it's mellow. If it's brown, flush it down." I hated "Navy Showers", get wet, turn off the water, soap up and lather up, rinse. Ugh...
