Hey Everyone,

I been seeing a personal trainer for about 4 months now and I really am learning a lot about personal fitness I have never knew before. He is excellent at creating work outs that make me feel like I am getting the best workout possible. I am seeing great results in my arms, chest, and legs.

Ok now to my question... I am thin - 28 inch waist but yet I still have this pooch of fat/chub that sits on top of my abs. My trainer told me since I am so thin that only way I will get rid of this is by getting surgery - either a tummy tuck or lypo. Does anyone know of any good exercises I could try to get rid of this? I see all of these guys in the gym with these 6 packs and I do not have the courage to walk up and ask them what they do.

Now my trainer told me I am not to do a lot of cardio being so skinny because my body will eat at my muscle and not the fat - so I am at a loss on what to do.

There are no exercises that eliminate fat in one part of the body. Your body will use fat in the same way it stores it- distributed in certain areas throughout the body.

What you have is a mild form of body dysmorphia. You look at your body and you see a pooch with a skinny person attached to it. What the trainer sees is someone who needs to make his muscles bigger so that the pooch is not as noticeable.

The trainer is giving you good advice. Stop looking at the pooch and instead take pictures and get the tape measure out to measure your neck, arms, thighs and chest. Focus on toning up and building muscle. And eat- you have to consume calories to build muscle.

I'm in the same situation (albeit a slightly larger 31" waist), and that's pretty much what I'm trying to do right now.

I've started targeting abs with hanging leg raises (which are an absolute killer) and I'm also going to be testing out some intermittent fasting.

Crude Fitness

I can't tell you yet if it's working, but if I have Ryan Reynolds abs in 6 months I'll let you know :P

I'll tell you this: You are totally HOT! I, on the other hand, am the one that needs to reduce the belly fat. I have about 2% body fat more to go...

Interesting question. I have been working out consistently for about 10 years or so. I carry 15 to 20 # above my ideal body weight to keep size in my shoulders, arms and pecs. I do hanging leg raises and kneel down facing a pulley machine with the rope you use for triceps, and do downward crunches with 60# or so of resistance. This you can do going straight down, or bring your head down beside your knees too for the all-important obliques. I don't have a six pack thing (visible rectus adominus) goin on because of my extra we but I have defined external obliques that frame the rectus abdominis which is a good look and optimum for guys that can't get visible rectus abdominis.
