Hey you guys! Long story short, I was really overweight at one time and I started exercising and eating better in April/May. I got really serious about it over the summer. I feel and look better after losing 60+ish pounds, but I have a lot of fears that just hit me as I finished an intense 1 hr and 30min cardio exercise. Although I haven't seen much of the effects of it yet, I fear that I will have heaps of excess skin and a saggy face. I'm 19, so I should have some elasticity in my skin, but I fear that it's not enough. I don't over-do it in exercise, and I personally think I eat enough, but I keep losing weight. I can't and honestly don't want to slow down my metabolism now that I've worked hard to boost it, but the side-effects of fast weight loss are horrible.
I emphasize that I'm not doing any crash diets nor am I killing myself in exercise. I just kicked a lot out of my normal diet and only eat sweets very rarely.
What can I do to ensure that I won't have ridiculously saggy skin. I love exercise now and I'd hate to have to stop and slow down my progress. I don't have a scale or anything to track it. I only know from my doctor who stated that, since the last time I saw him (Nov), I lost 60+ pounds.

I'd like to also add that I've been pescatarian (no meat but fish) for 3-4 years now just in case that influences anything regarding skin.

Is an hour thirty your typical cardio workout? That's an awful lot. Also what weight did you start at? And what weight would you like to end at?

You should definitely invest in a scale. You seem to be losing a lot of weight at a time. I think doctors consider 1-2 pounds a week as a healthy rate to lose.

I believe, at your age, the skin will adjust. I would continue to do what you are doing and worry about the skin question down the road. It may sag for awhile while it adjusts. It may never be a problem.

Response of skin to weight loss is very unique to each person. Different people have different types of skin and while one person might have skin that does retract in time after weight loss, others may have skin that doesn't retract at all.

The way that most guys can conceal the excess skin is to fill the space left by the lost fat by lifting weights to add new muscle.

You should invest in a scale and a tape measure. It's the best way to track your progress.

Thank you all for the responses. I haven't bought a scale because the last one I bought was VERY inaccurate. Do any of you recommend any SPECIFIC scales? I want to order one ASAP.

I'm 18 and I've lost 60ish pounds in the past year, so you're way ahead of me LOL. Congrats. I have some issues with skin that isn't "flabby", but it isn't quite as taut as I'd like for it to be. What I'm doing now is making sure I take a multivitamin and rubbing vitamin E oil on the areas with stretchmarks and looser skin. It's helping slowly but surely. I also use cocoa butter (only Palmer's brand) occasionally. Hope I helped!

You've helped more than you know! Thank you and congrats on your loss as well!

You want what's called a doctor's scale. You're right, those mass-merchant electronic scales are inaccurate.
