We've been fighting for equality. Sounds like we're getting there.
Consider how many times this happens to straight men or women on dating sites, and how little it is reported because it is common.
For that matter, predatory and lazy young men are nothing new to the gay world. Our victim-obsessive culture focuses on men like Kevin Spacey, but almost never on the younger predators, because the built-in assumption is they can only be exploited because of the wealth imbalance. Yet, we all know there are plenty of bottom feeding thieves and charlatans in the prostitution world, and the young are inherently more active in that market as providers.
Cinema has addressed this for a long time, and even in the gay world. As Good As It Gets openly depicted the story line of a perfectly innocent gay man being beaten and robbed by his art model. It was a bit sanitized to remove any responsibility or interest by Greg Kinnear's character, but it was still somewhat of a trope.

Ayers attempt seems really amateurish...but thankfully he has been arrested before one of his attempts at robbery became murder.
Unfortunately, I suspect that he is a sociopath with a life ahead of him of violence and sex as his MO.
