This is an obvious question, but I couldn't tell from your post - did you get a new monitor with your new system, or are you using your old familiar monitor with your new PC?

I'd echo Corny's recommendation on calibration, regardless of the answer on the above. And you should watch porn for skin tone assessment. Lots of porn. Lots and lots of porn. I mean, it's the only way to be completely sure that the flesh tones are, erm, reproducing accurately.

What are the manufacturer's name and model and model #. Perhaps we can discern if it's an isolated and model specific issue.

Another though is that there may be a "Power Management" issue with Windows 7 and the hardware as implemented by the manufacturer. Either manufacturer specific drivers or a piece of software being required.

A quick look about does not point to any issues such as yours...

I'm guessing the power profile for "on-battery" is dropping screen brightness back to save battery life...

If it's not power profile related; I'm somewhat at a loss, short of hardware issues.

Of note, in your particular laptop, is that it runs both an on-CPU graphics core and a discrete GPU. Will investigate more to discern if switching between them might solve your issue.

does it only happen for videos? sometimes even flash video are hardware accellerated. the 3d drivers offer different color adjustments then.

you can usually acces them over a little symbol in the systray (next to the clock) or sometimes with a rightclick at the desktop (nvidia control panel)

I must also say that I have jumped from a 32bit to 64bit system as well--not sure if that has much to do with colors looking "off" to me.

Yes, it does make a difference.

The problem is the video driver for 64-bit Windows 7 for your hardware. Yellowing (and some other problems, like black boxes appearing randomly, etc.) is a known problem with Windows 7 on (especially) computers featuring Intel video chip sets.

You need to find a new, 64-bit video driver for your new computer. The default driver is not optimal.

Some good suggestions in here from the always-stellar Tech Talk JUB'ers. Huntneo, I would definitely start by following burke's post links - number 11 in this thread, for instance, about halfway through the link, will let you access the download section for updated drivers, BIOS, etc. for your laptop model. Perhaps there's an update that's relevant for display-related issues; although I would think that as a 64-bit OS right out of the gate, the display driver with the machine would ship updated with the image the laptop is loaded with; but you never know with these things. Good luck!

Huntneo, if I'm thinking of the same thing Corny is suggesting, start here. In the fourth screenshot down, if you see a "Color Management" check the settings there again, but primarily you want to use the "Properties" on the graphic card driver.

Also see here, particularly step 1. From that Device Manager view, use "Properties" to see what it reveals and go through the tabs and options from there. By the way, if you have the "Update Driver Software" link as step 1 shows there, try that out - although maybe you've already done that, and in theory when you visit HP's support site you should be able to download the latest drivers that the step would cover anyway.

I think maybe you already tried that, and if so, just ignore this post. The driver file is a self-installing exe file of 175 MB (which is just enormous for a driver, but this is Windows).

Please check to make sure it is the correct driver, as I have a habit of messing people up in these fora.
