Hi, Im currently 170lbs and would like to be around 154lbs,

Most of the time i eat right, fruit, pasta, chicken although I eat chocolate and cakes also.

I try to do around 30mins a day on a treadmill and i go jogging/walking every other morning but i still seem to be gaining weight.

About a year ago i was 12stone 10 and decided to eat right and run on treadmill for an hour a day, i got my weight down to 11stone 7, but ive started to gain weight again, i know i need to start doing more excercise but does anyone know of any food plans or diets that can help?

thanks alot for any replies ..|

You have to cut out the high calorie/high carb sweets like cake and chocolate. Just because you are exercising doesn't mean you can eat anything and still lose weight. Once you get to your desired weight, a treat here and there would not hurt but not while you're "in training" to lose weight. It all goes back to the basic rule:

Eat LESS. Exercise MORE. Drink lots of water. If you are trying to lose weight, I would lay off all sweets until you get to your desired weight and, even then, eat them in moderation. If you have the propensity to gain weight, you just have to watch the sweets.

It's amazing what cutting back a little here and there can do to lose weight! Changes such as eleminated drinks except those with very little to no calories helps a lot. Start drinking only water, coffee, black and unsweetened tea. Portion control is also important. Eat slower and recognize when you are full and stop. A lot of people swear by eating very small quantaties more often through the day. That way your body gets used to the food coming and stops storing fat in case the food quits coming. That is why skipping meals is a bad idea. Usually, that makes one so hungry that when they do eat, they overeat and do not have time to burn off the calories taken in and the body converts the extra to fat! Cutting carbs BACK not completely OUT also helps. Be sure the carbs you take in are complex carbs and not from refined foods such as sugars of any kind and white flour, etc. Be sure the grains you eat are whole grains such as whole wheat, whole grain rices etc. If you do that, the weight will come off natrurally, a little more slowly and you will be able to keep it off. Of course, nothing works well unless you are getting exercise, too. But you are doing that so all of that should work for you. Good luck

Ty for the advice, i think i'am gonna cut out chocolate until i get to my set weight and im gonna have 3 meals and 2 snacks n lots of water :)

:-) just went on treadmill for 12 mins warm up and 15 mins running, at least i have that to look forward to every night

I never reccomend anyone cut anything from their diet, or start new exercises theyve never done before. I think food and diet programs that introduce foreign activities or slash whole categories eg treats, are the ones most prone to failure and when people do fail they usually fail more spectacularly with binges and yo yo weight management. The two main things are to eat a little bit less of everything your eating now and do a little bit more of all the activities your doing now, gradually over time start changing the foods and activities ie start eating a little more wholegrain products in place of white breads pasta's and rices. But i dont reccommend you cut anything from your diet initially.

I've been in the process of losing 20 pounds (I'm half way there). By far the biggest thing that has helped is cutting back on sugar and specifically soda. I don't go for the diet colas either ... I'm always suspect of the man made "nutrients" like splenda - no telling what the effect of these things is until at least 20 years down the road.

As to eating less, I don't recommend it. I tried that and found that I actually gained a few pounds. My doctor explained that to me ... basically, the body is built to ensure that it has the necessary nutrients stored for emergencies and so when you cut down on your food intake, the body also slows down your metabolism causing you to burn fewer calories. The better thing to do is 3 meals and low fat/low sugar snacks as needed in between (think you said you're already doing this). And of course plenty of exercise. Building your major muscles also ensures greater fat loss since muscle burns up more calories even when you're resting.

Finally, NEVER fall for those lose weight quick schemes (I've tried that too unsuccessfully in the long term). Your body will revolt in its own way and you'll end up gaining weight over the long term. Accept that slimming down is a long term process and ease your body to its new size.

hi fboy 1988,
it seems like have the opposite problem as you can read in this health forum.
I always 'force me not to eat'. Thinking of eating the food makes me feel fat, and so I don't eat it. Try to agree for yourself how many calories you are going to eat every day. (don't do what I do though, because I know myself that's not good)

i keep my body healthy by exercising and drinking nothing but water, water flushes everything out
