There is no need to be upset for such a tiny tiny thing.

There are bigger things to worry about.

I think that just because you're on the East Coast doesn't mean you should be blabbing about the ending to people who still haven't had the chance to view it on the West Coast. Same with movies, if people go on saying 'Oh so and so died at the end of the movie' I would probably get on their case about it.

But then they bitch and complain. "If you hate me spoiling the movie then don't go on Facebook" why should I have to stop going to Facebook because you're being a stupid asshole and spoiling it for the 5,000 friends you have on Facebook including me.

you're not irrational, just not very practical - (and I mean that in the nicest way possible) -

1. I don't mess with Facebook - but B) i imagine - that when something happens on a popular show- peeps wanna go out and talk about it - NOW -- with little regard for time zone differnces, or committments of their "friends" who might not be up-to-date.

soooo....maybe the only way to avoid that is to stay off those places untl you have indeed "caught-up" on stuff you want to learn first hand , like from your DVR.

I'm glad you got out and had a nice evening, tho ! (*8*)

People get excited about sharing information. How would they know that you didn't watch the show at the same time as they did?

As upsetting as you are, you can post on Facebook telling all your friends not to give away spoilers until 7 days later. The reason for 7 days is...for people who DVR the show and might not watch it until a few days later

Yeah it sucks, but they probably didn't do it thinking, hahaha, this is gonna spoil some peoples viewing.

And to be honest, if the show is good enough, you'll still enjoy it, even if you know what will happen.

Yeah, they didn't do it to intentionally ruin things for someone else.
Just be careful next time. All you can really do.

You have every right to be annoyed. Not everyone has the luxury to see episodes as soon as they come out. I'd say give at least a week before talking about things. Then again, I'm the kind of person who will wait years to watch what everyone was raving about then.

Stacy:

IMHO you are not wrong.

I still feel kinda bad about a couple years ago, when I was on a Scrabble site and playing a game with somebody in Scotland, and I made some comment about The Sopranos which had had its concluding episode here about two weeks earlier. The guy on the other end was rather pissed off, because I had semi-spoiled the ending for him. I wasn't thinking about the fact that foreign airings of American shows can sometimes be months behind their air dates in the USA.

And I never even WATCHED the damn show, lol - just repeating stuff that I had heard. (I think I did some kind of wordplay with it, or something, but I forget.)

I guess it's too much to expect that Facebook won't be talking about something that becomes a major topic of conversation in all aspects of life. You brought up something that I hadn't even thought about before, and if I was a "different kind of Facebook user" I could have easily talked about an ending to something one or two days after the series was over.

But I'd have to indeed be a "different..." because, as my current practice goes, I almost never post anything of any kind on FB, and I spend perhaps three hours per year on it.

I try to refrain from posting spoilers even if the shows been off the air for a while. I and a lot of my friends often watch shows well after they've aired.

Everyone gets annoyed when someone spoils a show or movie for them, whether it was intentional or not. I don't think they meant harm by it. They probably just assumed everyone who is a fan of the show would have watched it at its normal time.

Stacy, your story is like my lecturer's story. That time, she just bought Harry Potter the 7th a week after release and was going home while listening to the radio when the radio broadcast spoiled the whole book in front of her. She wanted to step the gas and crash the cars in front of her.

What happened to you is common. Some people like spoilers, some people like to spoil, some people hate both of them. You can't determine which one is which and whether they can spoil things or not, 'cept they have the words "SPOILER ALERT!" on their foreheads

Well, I certainly wouldn't check facebook and everything else before I watched the program from here on.

stacy, how can you call them selfish for discussing something already broadcast?

It might be more selfish for one person to suggest everyone else restrain themselves. :-)

I think the solution is to just stay away from social networks until you've caught up on your television viewing.

P.S. I've been in the same place myself. Re: Project Runway, Torchwood, Top Chef, etc.. And it can be irritating, but it certainly isn't life-threatening.

Traditionally in Comic and movie Boards, it's customary to give a "***SPOILERS***" alert, and give the reader an option to continue forward.

I find this a good practice, and should be the standard.

^^ This Exactly .. ..|

i would add that this is the price we pay to exist in such a cyber-social-sphere as we do ... immediacy of communication ... for better or worse .. (social AND media) ...

if you didn't exist in the cyber-sphere, it may take a day or more to contact those who might spoil your surprises

ADAPT ... move on .... or be overwhelmed
