I like the concept of a "viewers/music buyer's" point of view, but I also think she's gonna make a joke of everything. I dunno. Can't wait to see how it goes!!

was really confused when I first read her tweet about it...I'm like...seriously? what the hell? I love her...but seriously on Idol?

but after watching her announcement video...I'm kind of interested in seeing her on the show now. I dunno how the dynamic between her and Simon will be...it'll be weird...but I'm looking forward to seeing how it works. Apparently she signed a 5 year contract.

My first thought was 'OMG I love Ellen but she has no music experience.' My second was 'Paula never said anything that had anything to do with her music experience anyway'. So HELLS YEAH bring on the Ellen.

lol falconfan, that was exactly my thought process as well... hahaha. Well at least she is a huge music FAN, so coming from the point of view of strictly "would I buy this record?", and no technicalities, this could be a good thing. A breath of fresh air, if you will.

But I also agree with techboy - either it will be a huge hit, or a big floppy mistake, nothing in the middle.

Ellen is just too nice to be interesting as a judge. You just know she will never say anything negative about anybody.

Considering the one I usually agree with is Simon, I'm not looking forward to this...

I felt the same way at first, as you. I think I'll adopt your attitude.

Even though I think Ellen might not have been the best choice.

I feel the same way but then I also think about the fact she's filling the spot of cheerleader Paula.

True Paula was also ickily positive but at least she was batshit crazy, which was fun to watch. Ellen is just too normal.

EDIT: I wouldn't be surprised if Fox has numbers that show that 99% of viewers watch that show without a trace of irony. So they were genuinely upset whenever Paula had a meltdown. Whereas for me it was the best part of the show...

Now I have a reason not to watch the show. Obviously this show can't be doing as well in the ratings as they always self appoint themselves in saying. Otherwise they wouldn't have added Kara last season and get rid of Paula and add Ellen this season.

I think this show has jumped the shark.
They signed Ellen to a 5 year deal so I guess they are hoping that she will bring her fans in to watch.
This show is phony according to one of the contestants last season the producers pick the winners and the entire show is a sham. I agree!

I stopped watching American Idol after the 2nd season - i'd watch a few episodes now and then but in the past 2 years I haven't even watched the competition, just the beginning to see the bad performances. In all seriousness - I think AI started it's downfall after the 2rd or 4th season and it got even worse what they added the 4th judge. By then it had lost it's originality and the chemistry that Simon, Paula, and Randy had was gone.

As for Ellen replacing Paula - well, Paula was my favorite judge to begin with in terms of personality but I think I have the most respect for Randy - he in my opinion is the best judge, and really is able to balance out the singer's natural talent and pop start potential.

I LOVE Ellen, don't get me wrong, she is fantastic, has a great talk show, and is probably one of the nicest most heartfelt celebrities out there, plus she's such a respectable LGBT celebrity. However, I just don't see how she's going to make a good judge. The idea of her being "A judge from the fan's point of view" is interesting and maybe it will work but for me that just means American Idol is going down the shitter even more. What musical knowledge does she have to qualify her as a judge? At least Paula was a popstar, and Randy and Simon have produced music.

Maybe it's because I have played music for nearly 15 years but what I liked so much about American Idol in the beginning was that they were focusing on musical talent and the judges were looking for people who could really sing. Now, they just want to find someone who is entertaining, musical talent comes second. That is why in my opinion in terms of talent no AI winner to this day can top Kelly Clarkson. She was the original and is a product of the respectable American Idol. The rest are a hit and miss.

I stopped watching the show. Yet when I tuned in, Paula seemed to always steal the cameras spotlight better than any judge. She is a bit kooky, yet its part of her charm. She was not treated fairly pay wise either (considering the fact she was on top of everyones world back in the day), sorry to the haters, yet she's an idol, also an icon. Its sad that she's not coming back........pay for women is still lacking equality. Hey, many think she's dumb for turning down the offer (she already had plenty of money pre-idol.......and she turned down an offer we all would not)...yet she took a stand which many would not do on principle. Its might have backfired...yet it stired the pot on equality. American Idol is a blantly sexist. With all the good and the bad controversy, she brought the interest of people wanting to tune in. Even now shes still helping them build ratings.

Ellen is great & yes she represents the gays, yet she's just a mask for the public to ignore the issue of how sexist the world still is. I think Paula was a major part in people interest from the beginning and to the present.
Its sad how they treated her. All the money raised by idol.......nope yet the Men get hefty pay raises.

Ellen already has a hit show....is ther too much of a good thing.
Little Paulas departure maybe be a trigger effect in lower ratings for Ellen from over saturation of Ellen. Also Idol's repect factor has been tarnished. I see people tuning in the first few....then tune out quicker then previous seasons.

This was stupid. She doesn't like to say mean things about people. I like her but she ain't fit to be a judge.
