Im spending a few days in amsterdam just before christmas. Thing is ive never been, im travelling alone and wondered if anyone knew of any cool things to do, places to see, bars to frequent ect (especially for single travellers - I dont wanna look like a dick coz im alone) and of any gay hotels or hostels,

Go to a D&B underground rave(s).
Walk thru the Red Light District.
Go to the Dungeons!
Visit the Sex Museum.
Try not to get lost..

I was just in Amsterdam a couple hours ago. I would suggest you check out www.gayamsterdam.com. That site pretty much has it all for gay Amsterdam. Aside from its naughty side, the city is gorgeous, especially the Jordaan district and the Museumplein. Have a great time!

Whatever you do, whatever your interests, don't miss the Rijksmuseum or the Van Gogh museum--two of the world's greatest art museums. Of course, visit Anne Frank's house; it'll give you a lot to think about. Walk along the canals in the city center, and take lots of photos.

If you do get stoned/laid/etc. as other posters have suggested, at least treat yourself to these unforgettable experiences.

When you go to Amsterdam, Go check out the clubs and bars in the Regulierdwarsstraat. You should defenitly check out "Soho", It's a big bar ,two big floors, crowded do, it's popular right now. I also like "the exit" Great club to go dancing . Has three floor and a darkroom . If you're into leather you have to go to the Warmoesstraat, all the leather bars are there. I've never been to Amsterdam (besides flying out of the airport there)..I lacked the required tour guide. I've been to Rotterdam though.

Dutch society has much to offer, but IMHO cuisine is not one of them. I'm sorry, but buying fried chicken or a kroket out of a vending machine (i.e., at Febo) is just scary. Fortunately, the architecture, the museums, the people, the sights and the overall gezelligheid more than makes up for it.
