So this happened last March but some friends we visiting this weekend and I was prompted to tell the story again and all laughed so I’ll share it here. I don’t have much contact with teenagers, it’s not that I avoid them or them me I hope but I figure we just travel in different circles but I did have a brief conversation with one and at the end I burst out laughing which is not a common occurrence.
It was a nice March day in Massachusetts sunny and 45 degrees, a very nice day but not so warm that one would go shirtless but as I was walking my dog along a bike path I could see up ahead a lad of about 16 was shirtless. As I got closer I could see that his phone was propped up on the fence and he was taking a video showing off his upper body which he clearly been working on. As I passed him I said ‘aren’t you cold’ and his reply was ‘no no it’s not too bad and besides I’m almost done’. I kept walking and as my dog comes up the kid says ‘come here boy’ to which I reply in a corrective voice ‘she’s a girl not a boy’ to which he replied in a perfect deadpan voice ‘it’s 2023 nobody cares anymore’.
