Hi guys,

I've noticed from having anal sex over the last year or so, possibly because the last two boyfriends I had were well endowed, my anal opening is less round now and more of a "slit".

At the front and back of my anus, the skin seems more loose than before and the muscle seems weaker, whereas at the sides the muscle tone is still very strong.

Is this normal from anal sex? (The anal opening/musculature changing a bit)? And are there ways I can tone the front and back again so that it won't just be the sides that are tight and strong? (I know about kegels but I don't know if they work the front and back of the anus). Will it naturally return to its original rounded shape eventually or continue to be more of a "slit"?

Thanks! I feel a bit self conscious about how it's changed down there and I'd really like to tighten/tone the front and back.

EDIT: I have been doing kegels and have noticed that for the first time in my life they are really difficult to do. I have to use my lower abdominals to help me do them. Would having a hemorrhoid (which I do seem to have and have been applying Anusol for) reduce the blood flow/ muscle tone in my anal area?

Squats are normally recommended for tightening the anal passage opening. Body weight is sufficient for your particular needs.

Best results are obtained by devoting ten minutes to this exercise every day.

This is a bit puzzling. Kegels work muscles in the lower pelvic floor between your penis and your anus.

To find the anterior muscles, start by practicing stopping and starting flow when you pee. Once you have mastered this and understand which muscles to use, you can practice this when you are not peeing.

To work on the posterior muscles, start by putting a lubed finger into your ass and practice tightening your ass around your finger. Once you have mastered this, you can do it without the finger.

Kegels done properly shouldn't require using the abs. They're a great time killer when sitting at stop lights or on long subway rides. Can you also advance to where you can do them in time with music which makes even the most annoying rap music much more bearable.

Nope. It shouldn't have any effect at all.

The studies say that gay men have better muscle control of the muscles in the anus and are better at relaxing on demand. But there's no permanent change in the musculature as long as you're not having marathon fisting sessions or you're not playing hide-the-half-liter-coke-bottle.

Think of it this way: even the biggest penis is not that much bigger than a turd, therefore getting fucked with a penis or average-sized dildo is not going to do any more damage than taking a dump. So, it's not likely that getting fucked has changed you anatomically.

Doing those squats looks like it would make my current hemorrhoid problem worse lol.

KaraBulut's advice is good... I will get back into doing kegels etc.

Hopefully I can tone things back up :( I used to be so comfortable with receiving anal sex whereas after all my digestion problems etc., over the last few months, I've found everything irritated down there. I guess doing the kegels and taking warm baths and just eating my more restricted diet should help.

It's just the front and back of the anal opening feel more fleshy than before... a bit of a flap of skin. I guess that's what hemorrhoids do though...?

That guy has nice form squatting on that video, Kallipolis. And I find that imagining that you have a one hundred dollar note stuck between your butt cheeks helps to tighten everything, too.

Kara_Bulut,

I have an appointment early next month with a GI specialist, because of some chronic digestion problems I've been having.

Would they be able to take a look at what could be causing my anal irritation too? Like I said, my regular doctor simply said that there was "a minor split" in the skin there, and then that there was "no problem at all; that's just how your anus is", and that I need to take it more slowly when bottoming in sex.

So, could the GI specialist help identify why I'm irritated down there and why I feel like the skin in front of my anus is chronically irritated? (I'm not sure whose jurisdiction that falls under since I know proctologists are the ones who specialize in that area.)

There are two types of specialists in this area and the terminology can be confusing.

In the US, a specialist in gastroenterology is an internal medicine doctor who specializes in diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the digestive system (which includes the pancreas and liver).

A colorectal surgeon (formerly proctologist) specializes in surgery on the digestive system.

You should be seeing a gastroenterologist. GE (or GI) specialists can perform examinations and diagnostic endoscopies that will diagnose the problem. If there is a surgical issue, you would be referred to a surgeon, possibly a colorectal surgeon.

Okay, so when I go to have my digestion problem looked at I will make mention of the anal irritation, and hopefully they'll be able to tell me what it is then.

I guess I could ask the doctor I see at the moment, but we've been working through issues of tiredness and indigestion for so long that I feel like if I bring up this she'll be like "ANOTHER problem?!". Sigh. And it's been an issue for quite some time, too!
