Anemia?

I just found out my bf has anemia,but he realy didn't wanna explain what exactly it is....he was kind of ambarrased,but I'm kinda worried beacouse he said he had passed out in his apartment and no one knew untill his cousin came home later that day.


But you think you guys could tell me what you guys might know about a person with anemia?

anemia = low red blood cell count.

See the emedicine link above for much more good information. Generally they look for a cause of the anemia.

I've been anemic most of my life, due to low iron levels. Taking an iron supplement every day helps me.

vitamin C deficiency? I think you're thinking of vitamin B12 deficiency. I don't know that I've heard of C deficiency anemia.

And the bleeding causing anemia generally happens in females... not because of nose bleeds but because of heavy periods. Guys thankfully don't have to worry about that.

My iron supplement has Vitamin C in it, as well. There's also one available with B12.

Ok, I'll grant you iron absorption is affected by vitamin C... heavily... well, that's debatable.

And yes, you can get it from bleeding elsewhere, but the volume and duration of bloodloss is such that it is generally noticeable. And in men, the most likely place is rectal bleeding from colon cancer I would wager. Nose bleeds, although an occasional source, generally are lower down as they have to be heavy and frequent as you stated.

good point, I should have said GI bleeding. Ulcers is another cause. Thanks... tired and not thinking quite clearly.
