Angels in America is fantastic. The only problem it at six and a half hours long in two parts you really have to clear your weekend for it. Meryl Streep is incredible, Emma Thompson is brilliant and Mary- Louise Parker delivers an incredible performance.

One of the best plays I have ever seen here at the NAC. The movie version is unbelievable - Mike Nichols as the director outdid himself. Bravos for Meryl Streep and Al Pacino. As Meryl Streep said on receiving the Emmy for best performance by a female drama - "I sometimes think I'm over rated - But not tonight!" No one could of said it better. A must buy DVD.

I know! I didn't realize how long it was at first. HBO kept replaying it late at nite when it first started airing and I would literally have to stay up until 4am because I wanted to see it until the very end. Amazing movie; don't forget the incredible Jeffrey Wright!!!

I had watched it twice. Tot the dialogues and the plots were fantastic.

However, I did wish the Mormon guy had a happier ending.

Why is it called a film, and not a mini-series?

Too long... too sad. I have it all taped, but I haven't managed to watch it all continuously in one sitting. I'm going to try to watch it w/someone I know before too long...

I was just talking about this to a co-woker today. She had not seen it and I loaned her the DVD and she finally watched it this past weekend. We both think that it is fantastic and extremely well done and even better acted, magnificent cast who played more than one role. I had originally planned to watch it over a period of days, but ended up watching it all in one sitting. I couldn't stop it!

Horrible preachy esoteric play, horrible preachy esoteric movie.

So did you have a negative view from the play or did you just not like it?
I'm curious. I've never seen the stage version, which I think would be too ott, but I do like the film. Can you elaborate?

I saw the play and found it confusing, preachy and I didn't think that it really made sense at all. I thought it was like watching a bad Robert Altman or David Lynch movie. You weren't supposed to get it and the writer/director doesn't deign to explain what any of it meant.

There were some good moments and some funny moments, but most of all I found it preachy and in some ways self-loathing.

Saw the movie years later and thought it was pretty much the same but with worse acting and worse stereotypes. (Black queeny nurse, the gay Jew - insulting.)

Not sure what the appeal is at all. Maybe I just don't get it or maybe I don't like soapboxes on soapboxes. The second half was too esoteric. Maybe that's too kind a word. Frankly, it didn't make sense. I don't think the author knew where to take it.

That's how I feel about some authors and writers. If they have to explain it to you "you just don't get it" whereas I think they don't do a good job and use that as an excuse to get away with it.
